Stupid question but, what is two pieces brake rotors?

Hey guys, sorry for being challenged, but I was wondering what does it mean that brake rotors are two pieces or one? What do we have stock - two pieces or one? Also, why don't we see rotors drilled and slotted? I think I only saw slotted rotors for SRT.

Here you see that the center hat (black center part) is a seperate piece bolted to the braking surface.

Drilled or slotted rotors decrease the surface area so by having both on the same rotr manufacturers believe it will decrease the surface area too much (less contact patch) and actually increase stopping distance. That said I have seen people drill their slotted rotors.

Its not 'good or bad' black and white. The lightweight center hats are GOOD. Less rotating, unsprung weight is VERY GOOD. Slots are GOOD. Holes can diminsh endurance and track performance (only)

We have several "GOOD" slotted-drilled lightweigt 2pc rotor options, but the ENDURANCE on a drilled rotors is less, especially if tracked heavily.

Drilled rotors are often called 'poser' rotors in the Viper World, because they dont perform as well or last as long in track or competitive use. THEY ARE GREAT FOR STREET-STRIP-AUTOCROSS! If you like the ****-racer look, but DONT track your car but rarely, you can confidently add 2pc slotted and drilled black-hat rotors from $1195/set of four !

Thank you John. I plan to race it but maybe few weekends in a year, whenever Viper Days are in the Nor Cal area. But I do want to be able to withstand couple of sessions a day by 20 to 30 min sessions. Would these drilled and slotted rotors withstand it?

Slotted and or drilled rotors will also have the affect increased pad wear because the slots or holes are constantly shaving "clearing" the pads surfaces. This helps stopping power but increases wear and dust. The slotted rotors are the best compromise when it comes to looks and performance. The drilled will crack at the track it is not a mater of if. The less "mass" of the rotor itself reduces the amount of energy "heat" the rotor can dissipate causing increased temps and stopping distances. The rapid uneven cooling the holes create then cause the holes to be the focal points for stress cracking making them dangerous for the track. I have even used the drilled for my auto cross car and had them crack because of this so be aware of the differences.

The aluminum hat along with decreasing weight also helps isolate the hub and bearings from excess heat from the rotor surface increasing the life of these parts.

The 2 piece rotor also lets the rotor surface expand and contract more independantly of the hat. This means the rotor is less likely to be warped or in some way damaged by heat stress across the part.

Drilled and slotted can STAND IT but they wont LAST as long as slots alone! The drilled-thru rotor does not allow for as much 'spiderwebbing' and heat expansion and endurance / life suffers. As I said, they look **** (poser), and they cost $400 less per set, but they dont LAST as long in HEAVY TRACK USE.

Viper Days comes to NorCal 1 x year (Thunderhill) but you may graduate to open days at Laguna, as with NEXT WEEK! Who knows next year, now the the series has sold...

I would go with the slotted STOP TECH 2pc slotted rotor system, as on the 08 ACR............. under $1600 for ALL FOUR. In Stock, no waiting. Add SS lines for under $200; need fluid and GO PLAY ! Thank You........

I know of a couple guys that have cracked rotors autocrossing....these were not even drilled. If you're going to track the car get just slotted or even solid rotors.

I really like how the drilled rotors look...that's why I got em. I may do one track event a year.....but I do drive the car aggressively and the drilled rotors have been fine so far.

FYI, I have (2) complete used sets of SRT-10 2-Peice StopTech Rotors for sale, half price. Looking for 999.00 per set, they come WITH the EBC Red pads they were mated with. They are both <3K miles, ZERO track miles, ZERO aggressive pad miles.

I agree and understand the reasoning for purchasing just the slotted rotors but the cross drilled rotors do look purdy!!:D
