Rear wing (GT2 ) questions.......

Got two GTS's that i need to fit wings to and i have both wings..
One is Autoform and one is Snakoyl.

The autoform one looks like it mounts straight to the rear pannel..Is this strong enough:dunno:)
Where as the snakoyl one has alloy uprights that mount to the inside of the rear pannel behind tail lights...

Any info or help :2tu::headbang:

That one that goes to the rear plate area to mount looks like some giant insect holding on to the rear of the car.

Don't be a cheese head. If you're going to do a wing, then drill the freakin' holes in your rear deck and do it right.

I had the Snakeoyl GT2 style on my old GTS and it was ok but avoid that cheesey wing that mounts on the ass of the car. Looks terrible. And glad your not considering that double wingy thing of years ago.

The wing mounted by the license plate is for show and moves around in the wind. Get he autoform lemans wing and the lemans/daytona nose to balance downforce. The gt2 wing is of course a show non functional wing also. Bruce

I have an Autoform wing bolted behind the licence plate on my 96 GTS - I couldn't see the wind in the link to Autoform above but if it's the same, it bolts through to a steel plate in the trunk and is plenty strong enough. :thumbup:

Hey Dave,

I tried to PM you, but your mailbox is full. :dunno:

I plan to drill some freakin' holes into my rear deck and install a Mopar wing.:rolaugh: The guy I bought it from didn't send any fastening nuts, so I was wondering if you knew offhand what the thread size was for that wing?

I would hate to have to drag the whole wing into Ace Hardware to find the right size, so if you know, that would be great! :2tu:

On mine it required fabricating a new mount - DO NOT "ONLY" mount to the deck.
Even set at neutral you can feel cross winds and gusts push down on the back of the
car at 135mph+, I cannot imagine what that would do to just the body panel.

Here's the new fitting being installed. There is a peice missing in this picture that
connects the aluminum uprights across the back (you can see where I drilled the
holes in the center.)

From what I remember of the license-plate style wings, they were perfectly acceptable
when mounted correctly, but (like mentioned above) were bendy at speed. They
may well have been designed as such, I do not know.

Bonkers, I have film of my 01 ACR with AutoForm Plate-Mounted wing. Thunderhill, 150 mph, and NOT bending. In lateral crosswinds, the cable-stiffeners to the hatch closure did allow the wing some slight side-to-side-movement, (yaw) but NOT bending.

The primary reason the 2010 ACR wing has the slots in the endplates is to deal with this crosswind-yaw.

Those who will not drill the car are confined to the RS or Plate-mount wings.
