I'm planning to powder coat my brake calipers and valve covers to match my copperhead viper. Do you need to remove the pistons and all the seals before powder coating or not? The shop doing the powder coating said it is up to me. He said most high performance type calipers are fine with the 400 degree temp used during the powdercoat process and it should not hurt the pistons, seals etc. Does anyone have any experience with this? Another question is can I get the "viper" word sticker from Chrysler to put back on the calipers. The powder coater didn't think he could mask over the word and make it look good.

Thanks for your input

You do not have to powder coat calipers for a great job.

Last year I did my copperhead calipers custom painted, vinyl black viper logo and serious clearcoat over it all.

Because calipers were painted not powdercoated all the seals did not have to be removed.Painting calipers covered all the bolts & rigid lines well. They look real pro all painted as 1 matching piece.

I would not recommend powdercoating with seals because do you really know whats gonna happen to those seals in the oven...especially something as important as brakes.

If you powder coat and you take the calipers all apart you should get all new seals and its time consuming.

If you pay a shop to disassemble & assemble calipers for powder coat it can get time labor expensive...if you go that far then why would you re use old seals so new seals purchased adds further costs

And by the way...

Todd @ A&C Performance did paint on that caliper & valve cover & polished the large plenum only of the intake manifold and believe it or not it wasn't ridiculous costly.

It sure looks good and has held up perfectly.

Thanks for all the input. I guess the previous post covered it pretty well too. Still can't seem to get a very close match for the powder to the Copperhead color.

I've heard a lot of positive feedback about R&J's powder coating.

So did I until I got my calipers back. They powdercoated everything...The Viper logo sticker is already chipping off and the calipers have been just sitting in my closet...I wouldn't recommend them...

I always use newspaper/masking tape and cover everything I don't want paint on, after I wipe the calipers off real good, and use some High Temp Caliper paint from Auto Zone for about $4.00 and spray paint the front caliper and it looks great to me, then for the rear I always order say from Parts Rack, the rear caliper covers that just bolt on to existing calipers, that only takes less then a minute on each side. You can order the caliper covers in various colors. Put the wheels on, and remove the jack and go down the road. With my ole eyes, it looks perfectly fine, was very easy to do and pretty cheap, WORKS FOR ME!!! :) :eater:

isnt the viper logo on the caliper raised ? if it is, there is absolutely no need to use a sticker ? thats cheesy. even if its not raised a good coater can do the logo in one color and then coat the rest of the caliper a different color

Plum, No it's not raised, but that replacement sticker looks exactly like the one on there and it sticks, on mine anyway, perfectly fine. You won't be able to tell any difference at all.

Send your calipers back and have them redone. Most powder coaters offer lifetime warranty.
I have mine done by RJ and we just got another set in yesterday. Fully rebuilt and beautiful.

heres a pic of my R&J callipers Im very happy with them, as I remember my lines and nuts where painted from factory on my 03. The deal is fantastic for less than 300 bucks they get powder coded and refurbished ready to bolt on.
