    Skip shift confusion

I've never seen such an irritating "feature" of an auto before. Sometimes I like to use first gear just to get the car moving, and the skip shift comes on every time I do this. Starting in second is possible, yes, but it is hard on clutch. And going from first to fourth is near impossible, as...

    Viper vs Z06

Gotta agree with cratica. The thing I notice about Ranger's posted slips are they all have exceptional 60's. The guy just knows how to drive better than most folks in Vettes. Ranger, do you power shift that Z too? The point is that one exceptional driver can push a Z into very good times...

    Viper's security system whigs out!

Re: Viper\'s security system whigs out! Seriously, do most of you ever leave your car where you can't see it, anyway? The alarm is buggy as hell - I'll never lock my car, if I can help it. And as for the Chevy guys who razz you, Vettes are even worse!! My old C5 did the same thing as the...

    Brake Replacement

I sure am happy with Brakeman 3's. They are dusty, but I don't care about that. They are also a bit noisy, but I don't care about that either. They flat-out stop you. Also highly recommend Stoptech Stage II (slotted rotors and steel lines) as that has made a difference too and the slots help...

did a test today with cooling

Sorry, the reference is to charging a low/depleted AC system with new R-134a; when it's real low, the computer apparently doesn't get a code that it's running, even when turned on by the driver. As soon as I charged mine up, my fan started cutting on as it is supposed to. Now, my car runs...

    Viper's security system whigs out!

Re: Viper\'s security system whigs out! Ditto! My 98 has twice funked out on me when I locked it and then unlocked it with the key fob. Both times, it did the start and then die thing. I tried a lot of stuff, including the glovebox reset switch, but nothing worked except just re-locking it...

did a test today with cooling

:D Yep, that too. Gotta say though, I realize (now) the thing about the heat but the results have been nothing short of fantastic since I re-charged my R-134a AC. Now it has enough in there to turn the compressor on and fan cuts on. Whereas I used to have the temp going up to around 210...

did a test today with cooling

Good point. Isn't there a computer tool that you can go in with and set all these things? I know the Vettes have an aftermarket program that plugs into the OBDII port, or whatever it's called, and let's you monkey with virtually everything the car does - shift points on auto trans, how hard it...

did a test today with cooling

Joe, when I turn on my AC, my fan turns on and pretty much stays on. So, if it's warm anyway, there's a solution, right?

    Just ate a modded Z-06

I'm not surprised. Vettes are pretty fast small block cars, but they can't hang with the V10. Coming from the Vette world too...

Gears... who has 1/4 mile times vs stock?

All I know is I drove a new SRT-10 and it felt sluggish compared to my RT with headers and breathing mods and 3.54s. No doubt the SRT would take over above 150, and probably on any road coarse (it handles much better), but for straight line acceleration in any given gear, there is no doubt the...

Fixed my running hot problem - run the AC!

Thanks for the post a couple weeks ago about how easy it is to charge your own Viper AC. I bought the kit at Walmart, and two cans later, my pressure was stable at 45 and the car was cooling great. Had a hot day down here today, and we took the snake out. By leaving AC on, fan now stays on...

Does anyone in here run their radiator fan all the time to help with coolin

Re: Does anyone in here run their radiator fan all the time to help with co Load on the alternator, short answer. Under low load, the alternator turns more freely than under high load. Imagine a magnetic field that rotates and picture the amount of current flow increasing, making the force...

    97 GTS Vs. 02 RT/10

Two cents: My 98 RT has the 3.54 rear and I've driven and rode in both Gen II and III cars with 3.07; the difference is night and day. With 3.54s, the car simply explodes in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears as opposed to kind of more gradual come-on of power in (stock) 3.07 cars. The mod also...

    3:55's on SRT...first imperssion

Re: 3:55\'s on SRT...first imperssion Agree with the Gen II poster, these are really needed on SRT-10 - I drove a friend's SRT-10 last week and, comparatively speaking, it felt like it was bogging down. My RT/10 has the 3.54's and feels much quicker, altho' the SRT definitely feels stronger...

Front license plate bracket from Partsrack

I ordered one from JonB, and it works very well, but, I still don't want a front plate, so here's how I plan things: First stop: "Officer, I got the car recently and don't really know what to do about the front plate issue. If you'll cut me some slack I promise I'll find out and remedy it."...

    help....Viper dying....Fuel Pump dead?

BINGO!! :o Try not to run cars down to fumes, 'cause this is what will happen. Now your fuel filter is clogged and must be cleaned/replaced. No big damage done, however

OK who got a no front plate ticket leaving from Tators BBQ at the Bridge

Cash register justice - as far as I'm concerned traffic cops should be done away with almost entirely. Simply revenue machines.

SS brake lines? Where and How much?

    Michelin Tire Issue & concern

Re: Michelin Tire Issue & concern Got the V700s and finally have traction!! Drove a friends SRT-10 this weekend, and it spun the stock Michelins like crazy too. With 3.55s and headers, exhaust mods, my 98 is already way too hot for the Mickeys. Wonder what the forced induction guys are...
