SW ran 191.04 at the mile run

Re: SW ran 191.03 at the mile run Since this event was also open to bikes, I just have to throw in a few more results...the fastest vehicle there was a turbo Busa that went 210 mph... There was an all-motor Busa that went 202 mph, and another all motor Busa (with a blown head gasket) that went...

    Question about throttle part 2

On the GTS forum, I asked whether the Gen II and Gen III Vipers used direct throttle linkages instead of the 'drive-by-wire' servo throttle systems used on some cars. They said the Gen II's used direct linkages, but no one knew about the Gen IIIs. Does anyone have their SRT handy, to check to...

    Question about throttle

Thanks for the quick answers! I'm glad the Vipers use direct linkages instead of drive by wire. Let's hope they stay that way!

    Question about throttle

Do the Gen II and III Vipers use a direct cable linkage between the accelerator pedal and the throttle body air valve? I tried searching for this, but got no matches. One of my vehicles has 'drive by wire' throttle (Tundra), and there's a cable that runs from the gas pedal to the throttle body...

    Tires should have expiration dates!

I agree that tires need to have expiration dates. My dad has a bone-stock 87 Grand National with only 6000 miles on it, showroom condition, original tires. Tires look great, still have the manufacturing inks and marks on them. He drives it like a granny, but when I get the rare chance to drive...

    Question about rear-end ratio

I'm planning on purchasing a GTS in the next few months, and I plan on keeping it stock, for the most part. Is there a big difference in acceleration between the 3.07 and 3.54 rear end ratios? I'm more a fan of quick acceleration rather than all-out top speed (although the latter isn't a bad...

    Vipers Own the 1 Mile!!

I think you guys are nuts for going such insane speeds! But that's what hot-rodding is all about! I've always been interested in the one mile and top speed wars. I just wanted to put some superbike perspective into the mix. When the ZX12 came out in 2000, Doug Meyer took a completely bone stock...

From a 65 roll, WOW! Eating rice

I also think you raced 600 cc bikes. They are quick, but they have their limits (just think, it's only 0.6 liters of motor). Under very skilled hands, a 600 should be able to outpull (or at least hang with) a stock Viper from a highway roll-on, up until the 600's top speed of around 160 mph...

    Mustang taunts the WRONG Viper

Any vehicle that can run 150+ mph in the quarter is awesome. The blown/nitroused Vipers pushing 150 mph in the quarter can theoretically outpull a stock Gixxer1000/Busa/ZX12 in a roll-on race, since the best published quarter mile trap speeds for a stock street bike (Gixx1000) are 148 mph. But...

do you warm up your engine?

I usually let my car motors idle for about 30 seconds before driving away gently. That seems like a pretty good compromise between the 'let it sit' and 'drive off immediately' schools of thought. When it's cold (below 40 F) I'll let them idle for a minute. For the bikes, one owners manual says...

MotorWeek to feature SRT-10; My GTS does intro...

Hey Gus, Just saw the show...you're car looked great! The VCA was represented well! It looks like they didn't do a full test of the SRT-10, since they only gave a 0-60 time of 4.0 seconds, and only showed them driving the car on twisty roads, not on a race track or their own testing grounds...

    Who wants a quiet exhaust?

I think they make them quiet for political reasons, and to conform to DOT regs. On my bikes at least, the stock mufflers have inscriptions stating 'conforms to 85 dBA DOT noise limits' or something to that effect. 85 decibels, A-weighted, is not very loud, and that measurement is taken at a...

    New owner - New member

Welcome from East Texas, um, I mean Southeast Texas, umm, well, ok, I give up, from South Texas (San Antonio)! Hope you have fun with your new Viper! I'm planning on getting a Gen III Viper when the demand dies down in the future (I hope they come out with a coupe/moonroof body).

harley V rod calling me out !!!!!!

Miles, I agree that driver skill will play a big role in this race. A lot of the bikers you see on those fast bikes are 'posers' or 'squids', and have more fun doing things like wheelies in heavy traffic, crazy driving, and stunts. But when you want them to extract the full capability of the...

harley V rod calling me out !!!!!!

I'd say run him just for the fun of it! In a short race, say 1/4 mile, I think driver skill will be the most important factor. The bike mags have the VRod pushing 11.2 second quarter miles, usually with an experienced 170-180 pound rider. With decent riders, probably mid to high 11s. In a...

Anybody drive in a pothole infested city?

San Antonio has it's fair share of potholes. The flooding of the roads (even light rain causes floods) causes lots of erosions, and the cyclic heating/cooling of the road plus excess traffic really takes its toll on the pavement. Luckily I drive the 4x4 most of the time, so I don't really notice...
