Have you seen this? Can anyone with a Viper beat this car?

The MVP/PHR World-Record Setting 1994 Toyota Supra

This pristine 1994 Toyota Supra, owned by Dusty Womack of MVP Motorsports, was called into action in June, 2000. Dusty wanted to work with Powerhouse Racing to construct what would become the world's quickest and fastest Street Supra. The car was originally a targa-roof equipped Supra, however, PHR knew that once the 12-point NHRA roll cage was installed the removable roof would be useless, not to mention it was another weak point that would contribute to chassis flex. Therefore, the complete roof was removed and a non-targa version welded and blended in place to add structural rigidity. Next, the Supra was transported to Bevis Race Cars where their highly experienced team of race car chassis builders worked for many weeks to turn ideas into reality. The required 12-point NHRA legal roll cage was designed by Powerhouse Racing to fit within the confines of a stock interior, no easy task for any installer. Many hours of fabrication and trimming were required to keep the factory dashboard in place with the required dash bar, not to mention working around the front and rear seats. Also installed were a removable Stroud parachute, removable window net, and seat braces to support the Sparco EVO II seats. After the chassis modifications were complete, the Supra was transported to All Star Custom Paint and Body in Jacksonville, Texas, where 6 coats of Lexus Spectra Blue Mica PPG paint were applied to the bare chassis. The Supra was then transported back to the PHR facility, where it would spend the remainder of its time until race day. Turning a bare chassis into an 8-second street machine was no easy task, but one that the crew at PHR was very capable of. With the assistance of MVP mechanic Brad Fagan, the crew at Powerhouse Racing began the six month job of building the fastest and most powerful Supra the world had ever seen. Supplying enough fuel to feed the anticipated 1000+ Horsepower engine would prove to be quite a challenge, so the crew at PHR installed a custom 10-gallon aluminum fuel cell, dual Weldon external fuel pumps, and twelve 1700cc injectors. Of course, fueling 1000+ Horsepower and managing 1000+ Horsepower are two very different tasks. A newly-developed MoTec M820 ECU was installed, along with the full complement of MoTec ADL digital dashboard, sensors, and a PHR custom MoTec wiring harness. Once the accessories were complete, Powerhouse Racing turned to owner Jarrett Humphreys to construct a fortified 2JZGTE engine and cylinder head that could withstand the torture of 40+ psi boost pressures for at least 9 seconds at a time reliably. The PHR Race engine relies on Carillo rods, SPS carr bolts, custom designed J&E pistons, PHR modified oil pump, PHR lightened water pump, and the ever-popular PHR Race cylinder head equipped with 1mm oversize valves, Titanium retainers, and dual valve springs to ensure reliable operation for the entire season. Attention then turned to the intake and exhaust systems. A custom-designed exhaust manifold was manufactured to support the gigantic PHR Stage 3 turbocharger. Coupled with the HKS GT series wastegate and 3.5" downpipe, this turbocharger is capable of feeding well over 1000 Horsepower worth of air to the engine. On the intake side, a PHR Stage 3 intake manifold was constructed to feed each cylinder a balanced amount of air with the least amount of restriction and loss of velocity. The Stage 3 intake was fitted to a 75mm throttle body fed by 3" intercooler plumbing from the turbocharger. The engine resides on a set of PHR solid engine mounts to ensure that no movement occurs during a violent drag strip launch. A custom-designed three speed transmission surrounded by a Titanium case was installed into the car for reliability purposes as factory Toyota automatic transmissions usually fail at 500 Horsepower, much less the anticipated 1000+ Horsepower. The Supra rolls on Monocoque 15" wheels at all four corners, with Goodyear 10" slicks providing traction at the drag strip. At the Turbo Magazine press time, the Supra was barely able to roll under its own power, but barely two months later, on its very first pass down the 1320', the Supra managed an easy 8.98 seconds at 154 MPH under the command of driver Tripp Tatum. The run captured the title of the world's quickest and fastest unibody (full chassis) import, not to mention the world's quickest and fastest Street Supra, a title previously held by the Powerhouse Racing 1998 Supra with a 9.91 second pass in June of 1999. This momentous occasion proved to be the culmination of almost a year of efforts by the crew at Powerhouse Racing, MVP Motorsports, and driver Tripp Tatum. Many thanks go out to all who assisted with this project.
