I know that there are varied opinions if one "should" move from a Z06 to a Viper, etc etc etc... but I am curious of everyone's opinion about a deal I was offered on a "new" 2006 Viper Coupe

New 2006 Viper (with ~200 miles and a scratch on the door sill they said they would fix) stickers for 87k and some change

Was offered the following

25K for my 2001 MY Z06
10K Downpayment
Viper selling price ~$78K

Payment approx ~$778/mo for 72months

For some reason this deal at 1st sounds good but now thinking it might not be as good as it appears.

Thanks all

25K is good for your Z06 and 78K is average for th '06 Viper. So, the deal is a good deal if everything else is true that they tell you. If you've never driven a Viper, and if you've driven your Z06 aggressively, you need to be VERY careful. The Viper has none of the "nannys" to help you get out of over driving the car, like the Corvette has.

I've seen "almost new" coupes go for $65K. Get them to come down to about $72K or walk away. You would be better off selling your 2001 on your own, then get the car of your choice with cash in hand.

One other thing I was thinking. The car has over 225 miles on it. I test drove it and was on it some. Thinking that others have test drove it the same.

What does that mean about the break-in period it needs to go through?

F that.. the coupes prices have dropped.. you can get like new for 65k. Most I would do is 70k for that car.

Keep in mind I bought mine NEW.. during the height of its pricing, so even I hate to admit it, but they can be had "new" for 70k easily.. save the extra 8k they are trying to screw you. Look elsewhere, or pick up a slightly used one, from one of the great members here, for something in the low to mid 60s.

Jon

PS. and if you are going to pay something around that price, get one with NO miles and NO scratches, contact Bill Pemberton at Woodhouse Dodge.. he'll take care of you !!

Yeah that seems high especially with a scratch that sounds like it needs a repaint.

Well, this is my take on this deal. I believe that the dealer is probably giving you the car at dead cost. I know that my 06 coupe stickered at 87k with an invoice price of about 83k. Some dealers got up to 10k in dealer cash on certain cars to take overstock from the factory. Your Z06 is probably worth 25k RETAIL. By that, I mean that a nice clean 01 car would sell for that, more or less. I know of a privately owned Torch Red one here that would change hands for $22k, and I know of another Mil. Yellow one with 64k miles and an asking price of $24.5 at a local independent dealer. The dealer is giving you the car at invoice less a good portion of the 10k, and then probably overallowing on your trade by at least 3-4g--giving you the rest of the 10k to make the deal. 01 Z06 cars will bring low 20ks real money at auction or wholesale--the true trade in value of the car--no more than that. You could indeed continue to shop around, but this sounds like a cost deal--especially if the car has options. I have both an 06 Viper and my old 02 Z06, and both are great cars. However, nothing compares to the snake in terms of crowd appeal. I say go for it if you are comfortable with the payments. Thanks, Kaya's old man.

I don't know if the 06 deal is a good one or not, but I do know if you have to ask about moving from a Vette to a Viper you are better off staying with the Vette.

Well, this was interesting.

They got back with me today and offered me $72,990 AND $25,000 for my 01 Z06.

I was seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on the deal and they called me back at about 6:45pm and said they had someone else local here in NC coming from about an hour away or so to come look at the car and if I wanted it I need to let them know then. I told them go ahead and if they sold it then they sold it....I wouldn't have an answer until later this evening.

I was putting together somethings on my end and called back at the end of the evening and was told they sold the car. I said to the salesman - I hope you sold it for alot more than what you offered to me - his response "oh yeah!"

Oh well!

My take is that if you're talking in the $70k's who cares if it's $73K or $77K if it's the car you want.

If the car you're looking at had the stripes and a few other things with that kind of mileage it is 'worth' in the low to mid $70's.

There's no shortage of Red Viper convertibles with the standard mesh wheels out there, and just because one might be a model year new, so what, it still looks exactly the same as that exact same car did the year before, and the year before that.

So that would maybe put it's value down more in the 60's. Rarer cars with rarer color schemes, and stripes, may or may not command a higher price, but you may be willing to justify the higher price to yourself for not only the rarity of it, but the fact that most likely wherever you go - no one will have one like it, or have seen one like it.

Didn't see where you mentioned what color it was, so hard to say where the real value is once it leaves the show floor. Take mine for instance, I got it new/used with 400 mi this year, and yes I got it for hi $70's, but so what, they made this color/stripe combo one year, only sprayed 50 in this color and then only 9 with this stripe/wheel combo (as per someone here told me who had the stats list). - http://forums.viperclub.org/showthread.php?t=604757

So for that, I don't care what invoice is or incentives or whatever, the car looks frickin sick and everywhere I go no one has even seen one like it, and likely won't other than mine. MUHAHAHHAHA!!!!

And that's the fun part, instant gratification. You won't ever have to explain how the car is special because it's got a teeny weeny Z06 badge and the rear fenders are teeny bit wider than other 4,985,000 Corvette's on the road.

Yeah, plain blue with 10 spokes you didn't miss out. There's a bunch of other cars out there for a good price.

Honestly, you should look at DuPont registry. Here is a link to the search - 2005 and 2006 Vipers

And you'll see one of the VCA cars that is red with white stripes for mid 70's. Of particular interest to you might be this blue car.

It is going for $68k, has the stripes and the 5 spokes, and it's at a dealer so they'll take your trade and get you financing. If you were already thinking about spending a bit more, shipping your trade and/or shipping the car wouldn't cost you anything. The 2,500 mi is barely anything and IMO the car runs better after the first few thousand miles. Full warranty - go get it man!!
