2005 Viper - Need new air filters

So I still have the stock filters, but am looking at getting K&N filters. It seems the part I need is 57 1536, MSRP $475 but $309 with free shipping from KN:

Is there anything I need beyond this, e.g., airbox, or do these fit into the stock?

I see the kn product on ebay at the great price of $220 +$15 shipping, is this the way to go (i.e., right product, best price)?

I have those also. They look identical to the K&N filters, cost way less, and fit the stock housing. S&B is the brand name. I use the K&N service kit to clean and re-oil them.

So just to confirm, all those ads for kn are just filters and you need to get another airbox too?

I think the K&N set up replaces the stock air cleaner assembly. They don't make filters that are the same dimensions as the stock paper filters, so they don't fit. There isn't an improvement over the stock housing, so just get the S&B filters from Roe. -unless you feel the need to bling that stupid K&N sticker that people get with the 400 dollar retard kit. That sticker is rated to give you 700 more horsepower and 745 more torque if you stick it in the window.

Also.........My C6 Corvette, same deal. K&N only services the car with a 400 dollar kit. ....so I got an Attack Blue filter from a Corvette perf website. Their filter fits the stock housing as well. .......similar cost as the OEM paper filter. -around 140 bucks.

Not to continually dis on K&N, I just think that they should make filters that fit our cars. ....they make drop in filters for every other regular car, why not for Vipers and late model Corvettes? .......I think I can get a drop in K&N for my Challenger, just haven't yet.

I put a set of K&N on my 2006 coupe, got rid of the x-over pipes and put 2008 exhaust on the car. I had the car on the dyno and had 454hp to the wheels, not bad for having those few mods.

Did you do a baseline? My 06 put down 450 completely stock.

That seems highly doubtful these cars typically put down 425 to the wheels stock.

No mods. I wish you would have done a baseline to see what you gained with the K&N filters and 08 exhaust because those mods are probably what I'm going to do next.

No, dcvickers is about right. I put down 454whp/486wtq SAE corrected on everything stock downright to the filters. Definitely important to get a baseline. Otherwise, you won't know if any mods did any work!
