Because the sites listed in his thread are NOT site sponsors. we should all take advantage of the technical knowledge from our sponsors on this forum.

good luck

Bruce

And I'm sure you also meant to say take advantage of their knowledge, and buy from them.

If you want all your answers at one time you should learn the value of a site sponsor/vendor. Priceless? you decide...

A simple "YES" or "NO" by just reading the part #'s on the link would have been suficient.
Your reply however has answered my question and at the same time raised questions on your pricing. I have no problem and would love to support the site along with the site sponsors as long as they are reasonable and competative.
I'll have to call you out and Give the benifit of the doubt by asking for you to match the price. If you can't then just say it without same lame excuse. Perhaps you've opened up a door that you did not intend too. Competative? Now that's priceless.

BTW. waiting on my VCA logo.

I'm not a internet wholesale shop with out overhead, so the simple answer is "no" good luck with your purchase, and I opened nothing I'm not willing to stand up for Sir.

Then I guess this thread was perhaps not in your best interest.
Some things are best left alone if we can't help them.
God Bless.

Mark, can you PM me the cost of a 3.55 gear swap, and separately a swap + Quaiffe (parts only since the car is in Dallas). I have a friend that just bought a 09 Viper (coming from a 590whp Z06) and he says it feels slow. I figured a gear change would be the perfect upgrade for his Belanger/Mopar PCM combo. Thanks :2tu:

DANGER: Buying gears by Price for a 500+HP vehicle is the way to have your cheap off-shore gears disintegrate. While you sit on the side of the road, you will be warmed by the glow of your low price.....and maybe your overheated differential.

If you want NO service, and NO advice, just send me $189 and Ill send you a chinese 355 set, or $195 for south-of-border NAFTA set. It will fit fine. But it wont likley last. "Better Prices = No Advices."

PS: VCA recently changed to say that VCA Vendors may NOT post prices in these threads. Mark and I are just obeying the rules. This is why PartsRack always mentions price ranges "under $500" etc etc... We are allowed to post prices in Vendor fora only.....

(Ironic that non-vendors CAN post prices....)

Demoes4x,

Just wanted to pipe in on this thread myself, as you can see I too am a new member and found myself in the same situation as you on looking for gears. I myself wasn’t sure what I needed to complete the job and up here in Canada they tend to rake you over the coals on anything and everything they can when the opportunity arises due to a lack of competition!

That being said I started doing some digging looking into what parts, etc. I needed to complete the job, plus any recommended parts to swap out at the same time as a preventative measure. In my searches I kept running into a couple of things................

A) Do NOT purchase cheap gears as they WILL fail at some point and more than likely cause additional damage/costs, or more importantly a safety issue.

B) How great Parts Rack (JonB) was to deal with, and excellent pricing on a slew of products.

Keeping in mind I am much like you and am not going to purchase from a vendor solely based on someone being a forum sponsor, so off to PartsRack website I went PartsRack.com - Home checked out the prices and thought they seemed fair............were they the lowest on the internet? NO, so I thought what the heck due to all the glowing recommendations and gave JonB a call! During that call I realized that he was more than happy to spend the time with me explaining what I needed, proper gear ratio based on my expectations / driving style / and horsepower, what to watch out for when looking for an installer, etc.

After that conversation I thought to myself is the best price always the best deal? Clearly not! Then I thought what happens if I don’t get all the proper parts from the lowest priced dealer and my car is up on a lift at a shop how much is that going to cost me? What happens if the lowest priced gears have issues? If I do have issues is the lowest priced dealer going to be around? If the lowest priced dealer is around is he going to help me? You get the idea, I quickly came to the conclusion the $50 I may save is really not a savings, called JonB back, and ordered the product as he did earn my business!! Now I am not saying everything I buy from here on out will be from PartsRack, but they will be the first call I make to inquire and see if they can supply!

I had my gears with all the parts I required for the install within 5 days having to come to Canada and clear customs. Going to get them installed next week!!

I can’t tell you where to purchase your stuff, I just wanted to pass on my experience to assist you to make as of an informed decision as possible.

Good Luck,

Tony2

What happens to top speed in a Gen IV with the 3.55 Gears? I recall that stock we are looking at 202 mph in 5th gear.

Is top speed in 6th gear with the 3.55s? If so, what is the estimated top speed for an otherwise stock car?

Thanks!:usa:

Wow! great answer and attitude. Excellent way to welcome new members and promote the car we all love, as well as your business.:clap2:

Perhaps you could read Tony2's response as it was informative AND extolled the benefits a person gets by using one of the site sponsor's we have access to. Your post on the other hand sir, has encouraged me to never spend any of my money at your dealership. Priceless?, YOU decide...

Keep in mind that Mark is running the service department of the largest Viper dealership in the country, so he usually keeps his posts short. What he will do though is spend as much time as is needed on the phone to answer all your concerns.

As my daddy always told me- keep it simple.

Good for him. He might have alienated 2 prospective new customer's (one for sure speaking for myself), although it probably doesn't matter as it's the biggest Viper dealership in the country.

Sorry I don't "mean" to alienate anyone, customer or not, probably just replied at a bad time so no real excuses here. Big or small we should treat you all the same...

The one bad thing about electronic media is that you can't tell the tone of the message. That being said, Mark has hundreds of post's offering free advice and help and I'm sure he's taken countless calls helping Viper owners that havent purchased one thing from Woodhouse. I have done business with Woodhouse and Mark and will always consider him first as his knowledge and willingness to help FAR exceeds the couple of dollars that you might save - especially with something as critical as rear end gears.

Dont get me wrong, I'm always looking for a deal myself, but before passing judgement on Site Sponsors, VCA MEMBERS, and their response, you also might want to consider and take a quick look at how much FREE information this particular person has come on the board asking for; Exhaust advice, intake/intake torque sequence, throttle adjustment, door panel removal/fix, tranny advice, wanting a free owners manual, etc..

I had a response all typed up, but rather than be a complete dick, I'll just say that Mark has been a valuable resource to me on this board. I have never personally bought anything from him or Woodhouse, but he's always treated me well when I've asked him for his help. This is why I continue to refer him to my friends for mods, and have a lot of respect for him.

Funny how he has to pay to be on this board, answer questions for us, and offer to help us in any way he can, and he's seen as a bad guy when someone wants free help.

Well then that certainly makes a case for something JonB mentioned in another thread about privileges and non VCA members.

Good enough for me:2tu:

Maybe I was in too "combative" a mood myself and should have counted to 10 before posting.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Anyone know about these effects of 3:55s?

Thanks!

Since the Vipers top end is around 5500 rpm you would see about 195 if you use 3.55's all else being equal. If you also add Belangers and PCM you may still see the low 2's.

My 3.73 will only go about 193 on top now even with the full boat adds.

Yah the top end MPH was not an issue for me, nowhere around here to use it and I certainly would not want to get caught testing that type of top end on a public road........:omg: I did however want to be able to somewhat use 6th gear on the highway plus get a bit more bottom end torque.

Actually got the car in the shop early to beat the snow as it is supposed to start here late this week the weatherman says!! Should have back later today..........though I put the factory wheels which have runflats on them back on so they didnt screw up my aftermarket wheels, between that and the approx 45-50 degree weather there really wont be a way to test the new gears out. Will be waiting for the spring to do so!
