3R Racing Qualifies Ninth and Thirteenth at Mosport
Bowmanville, Canada ? 3R Racing qualified ninth and thirteenth at Mosport for round ten of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge GT series race to be run this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. EST.
A brief Mosport rain shower interrupted the 20-minute qualifying session rewarding those drivers who were able to put in a fast lap early. Tommy Archer, driving the number 1/c3controls/3R Viper, will start from the fifth row this afternoon as a result of his 1:23.856 and 105 mph average speed.
“We didn’t really predict the rain, but I went out and put in the time on my first timed lap,” said Archer. “The car is handling really well. From the entrance of turn one to the exit of 5B we are competitive. When I exit 5B we lose 8 to 15 car lengths depending on which car goes by. I am starting next to Pilgrim and behind Liddell, so the top three points guys will be able to see each other at the start.”
Tim Wiens, team owner and driver of the number 3/FirsTier Bank/3R Viper, posted a time of 1:24.046 good for a sixth row starting position. “I drove it as hard as I could. The lap was clean and traffic free. The car feels heavy through the turns and it seems like we are nearly parked going down the long straight. We have the knowledge to get the car handling; we need a break on engine power to be a factor.”
Archer is currently tied for second in series points with Porsche driver Liddell and both are five points behind Cadillac’s Pilgrim, 202 to 197. Tim Wiens is currently ninth with 123 points.
