A Day at the Races (timeslip)

Well, it ain't no Venom 800, but the car seemed pretty strong for the first time out since the rebuild. The times weren't anything spectacular (the 60' time tells you what a crappy track this is), but I was pleased with the trap speed:

I am hoping that when the car gets a few more miles and I find a decent track that I can hit the high 11's. The lines to get a run yesterday were ridiculous, with over an hour between each one. I did this run as my first and then fishtailed all the way down the track on my second run. With Norman the Observant in the stands and a 10-second Grand National with "VIPRKLR" plates on the grid, I decided to call it a day. No sense in embarrassing the marquee on a slippery track! I hope to post better times soon.

PS. The most fun was when six race bikes pulled up next to me on the deserted country freeway on the way home and wanted to play. Kept it safe and got six thumbs up when I made my exit.

Chris, basically you are "there" already. Your 120mph trap speed is definitely proof of a solid "sub 12 second" snake. Looks like that new Arrow motor is strong!

Chris, your car looked awesome going down the track. I had my digital camera with me but left it in the car. hahaha The top end pull at mid track is absolutely awesome. My buddies were all giving me some crap. hahaha That MPH is great. Let's go to Topeka and you will get in the 11s easy. They have a good track and aren't too cheap to put some VHT on the track. I noticed that when they sprayed the track at KCIR, they only went to the 60 foot mark. That is why cars were getting all over the track beyond that mark.

Nonetheless, you got some awesome trap speeds. Keep up the good work. Some of my buddies and I are going to Topeka on the 30th. Do you want to go? We can all caravan out there. That is a Friday nite.

I forgot to add. You should have seen all the people taking pics and movies when you were at the line. It made me proud to be a Viper owner. hahhaa

As you know, your 60' time didn't do you justice. But, your MPH indicates the validity of an eleven-second pass. It takes a lot more "skill" to get a stock car to dip into the eleven's in "street trim" than it does with slicks and skinnies. That's what makes it so much fun!

same thing happened to me the last time out at the track..., moroso in west palm beach, fl...

the track is notoriously slow... especialy for cars running street tires...

the first run, I left the line very easy.... little bog, then I was gone.... no traction problems through the gears... 2.0x 60', 12.08 @ 120.8....

next 3 runs, I had ZERO traction.... all the way down the track... I even granny shifted into 2nd gear... as soon I applied full throttle, the car just spun....

I am thinking that after the first run, we are picking up some crap from the track all over our tires.... making subsequent runs worthless...

next time out, I am going to have someone save my spot, and drive the car outside the park, get all the stuff off my tires and see what happens...

Nice times Chris, you're right the 60 ft. times look like about 3/10s off (I ran 1.81) you should break the 11s on a good track. I'm going to try and crack the 11s on Saturday at Famoso in Bakersfield, will post Moday 3/26.

Found one as close as I could. I think you will be pleasantly surprised when you get it to hook! Sorry it is such a mess and you will have to exscuse my notes. I keep basics on every run.

Awesome times and even better trap speed! My best run in this one was a 12.04 @ 120.5 mph last year. That was before the rebuild, so we will see how we do on a good track. Sounds like we have similar mods, so keep me posted on how this season develops!

12.3 @ 121.6 is unbelievable, man you gotta work on those starts and you'll be pulling 11s. First drop your rear pressure to 20 psi, you'll get a little better bite. You might want to consider a 3:54 gear, 2.170 is a fair 60 ft. time but with 3:54s tubes and filters (other mods listed below came later) I'm turning a 1.815 60 ft. time. Sounds like you have a strong car as with everythig practice, practice, practice. I am running the 1/4 this Sat. with mods listed below, I will post times on Monday 3/26, good luck.

Hi guy's sorry I don't have a scanner but here are my numbers from last year Trying to get the MPH up. it's a 97gts w/svp headers, K&N tubes, side exhaust, and stock cats.

r/t= .643
60'= 1.931
330= .000
1/8= 8.013
mph= 91.27
1000=10.329
1/4= 12.290
mph= 115.57

I ran those numbers or close to all year.
My new mods. this year are BTR's twin air cones, hi flow cat's from sean roe, new crank pully from svp, and new wires and plugs from MSD. Trying to get the car in hi 11's. but with a 115.57 trap time it looks out of reach I think. Tire press. is at 19lbs and I leave the gate at about 1500-1800rpm, and shifting at 5400. any ideas?

Gentlemen,
May I humbly suggest that you unhook your front sway bar for the strip? Not necessary to remove, just unhook. This will allow you to transfer weight much quicker and longer, giving you a little more rear traction.
