ABOUT TO SCREAM!!!

ok back to the engine light deal. i went on a road trip and when i returned home..i rinsed the inner fenders of the hood.....not the motor. the motor did get some overspray of water on it, just not a direct spray. Anyway, i took it to dodge and they hooked it to the computer and it said high voltage from the air temp sensor in the air box. the tech checked it and said the sensor was reading fine..."mabey it just caused the engine light to trip when it was wet.", the tech says to me. he reset my codes and i was on my way. light stayed out for about 90mins...then it came back. long story short she checked it the next morning and no codes showed up. i left and no light for about 30mins, then it was back. today i decided to go ahead and change the sensor anyway, fixed my problem for only about another 30mins. now the light is commin and going. (after changing the sensor i disconnected the battery for a few mins. reconnected). how can if find what the hell is causing this...it is making me sooooo mad. PLEASE HELP...ANYONE!!!

Ryan, I am by no means an expert, and am still learning things about the car. The only thing I recall concerning the check engine light, is that you might want to disconnect the postive terminal for more than a couple of minutes, like 20. I might be right of track here, but I seem to remember reading something like this. Hope this is the last of your problems Ryan, you have not been too lucky since you got the car. What ever happened with the noise in your rearend?

O2 sensors getting damp or wet? Mine did this a couple time when it rained really hard. I dried them and put some home made covers on them. Haven't had a problem since..

I doubt that't it. But I can agree how annoying that little light can be..

for the record...its not the "check engine light", its the light that just says "engine" with a little engine pic under it. does anyone know what exactly this light reads, mabey that can narrow my troubles down. and as the the question about the sex of the viper tech...sorry to say but it was a typo...no she tech here. mabey that is a good thing. My rear end noise turned out to be the clutch pack having excessive noise, causing one wheel to enguage before the other. thatnks for the responces...keep 'em coming.

Hmmm... I scrub down the engine compartment every 1000 miles and hose off the entire thing. Never had a problem in performance or dash lighting. If a little bit of H2O is causing something to trip then you may have a crack (or worse missinf weather sheild) somewhere along your sensor boxes.

I have had an "engine" light com on after washing the compartment, but went away after being on for about 5 minutes. Instead of disconnecting the batt., try to disconnect the three connections tothe PCM and wait 10 minutes. Let us know,

Ryan, got my service manual out here. It says that "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" is a ISO symbol. So let's assume that would be the one you are talking about. It says Service Engine Soon (symbol): is turned on by the Powertrain Contol Module. If a malfunction has occured that effects the emissions systems. There should be a diagnostic trouble code set in the memory.

So it looks like Mike (96 RT/10) was bang on.

Maybe that can help.

get yourself an OBD 11 reader at sears o from Roe racing , it tells you what the code is and resets it . alot easier than messing with the battery.
Chrysler should have included one with every Viper.

94 does not have the OBD II, first started in 96. He checks codes by turning key of and on three times.

Guys, thank you all very much for the help tips. (with crossed fingers)...tonight i drove the car around town a bit, and the light seems to have gone away. Mabey as my tech said, i got moisture in the wires, and it would take some time, alot more than i would have thought, to go away. i have been driving the car this way for about a week and a half, and now my problem is not occuring. let just hope it stays that way. I don't care what they say about viper owners...you all are the best, what a support team. glad i didn't go with a vett.

Get in a habit of checking for codes. That would tell you what connection
was giving you a problem, then you could clean it and put a little dielectric
grease on the connectors. If you don't, it could occur again.

i had the codes checked at my local dodge dealer. the first time he checked the codes it said "high voltave" from the air temp sensor in the air box. after checking the sensor, it was readig fine....so he simply reset my codes. thinking it may just have been shorted by the water, he told me to give it a try. i did and the light came back, next check revealed NO codes. and as for my light being gone on its own, yeah it was too good to be true. went to panama city beach tonight and it is intermittent again. anyway, i am at a loss for a solution....(sigh)
