Aftermarket Exhaust Question

I'm looking for a 2001-2002 GTS and expect to modify the exhaust (Corsa). My question is...does the 01/02 GTS have an X or H crossover pipe? My C5 vette had a factory H pipe, which caused the famous motor boating or burble at idle and the popping during shifting and decel. By going with the X pipe, all of this was eliminated. Since I don't have my Viper yet, I don't know from experience about what is needed. Any offerings???

No factory cross over pipe. But they're offered in the aftermarket to install way in the back to cut down on drone.

The x-pipe cutting out burble on cars with true dual exhaust is more of a misconception than anything. About the best it does is just even out the tone a little.

I had a Z06 for several years with a B&B exhaust and whole other host of goodies, I later installed an x-pipe which was a waste of money in my opinion, the burble changed little if at all.

With the Viper, I went from the stock exhaust, to a SnakeOyl rear sub with no crossover, to a B&B with a built in x-pipe, the only difference is that the B&B was clearly the most agressive sounding, the burble was pretty much non-existent with all these exhausts. And all in all it is significantly less than a vette even with an exhaust with no crossover whatsoever.

Thanks for the info. Since the C5 Vette is NOT a true dual exhaust car, the change from the factory H pipe to the X pipe was very significant. The H pipe had a very small hole and could do little to allow proper crossover. The aftermarket H pipe had a very large passage and really helped with both the burbling sound and the popping.

I didn't know that the Gen II Viper didn't have a crossover. So, if I just add a Corsa touring cat-back system and maybe high flow cats, the sound would be better than stock...without being too loud and hopefully, no resonance! Am I on the right track here??? I am not concerned with the amount of added HP or TQ. Just want a nice sound with the nice looks. BTW...on C5s, Corsa was the most popular aftermarket exhaust. So many good ones, but it seemed that both Borla and B&B were obnoxiously loud! I appreciate any and all input here. Wouold like to learn from YOUR experiences.

All you really need to do to get a decent sound is eliminate the rear muffler and have 2 pieces of straight pipe put in. No crossover needed. You can put the stock tips back. I did mine for $30. Makes a world of difference from stock. I have a friend with a Corsa set up on his 02 C-5. Eliminating the rear muffler from a Gen 11 Viper sounds better than the Corsa system on a C-5. If you want a little more sound...eliminate the resonators in the side sills.

Stock exhaust = some drone, though not too bad

Rear muffler eliminated with no crossover = significant drone

Rear muffler eliminated with "H" crossover = less drone but a bit more than stock

Rear muffler eliminated with "X" crossover = They say less drone yet

Corsa cat back = least drone of all and in fact almost none.

IMO : The Corsa cat-back system is all that you need to do. It is "right" out of the box. The stock exhaust's sound quality *****. Corsa is a whole new world.

I had no drone in my car without a crossover. Certainly no more so than stock....and I didn't really notice anything irritating about the stock system, other than the poor sound of a stock factory muffler system.
