Air Filters

ok i feel like a fool for asking, but how the hell do i get the damn airbox open to get to the filters, i tried but i cant get the smooth tubes out to have free access to the airbox. Im sure that once the tubes are off, i can just unclamp the box and take off the back end, exposing the air filters, but i cant get the damn hoses off!!!

they are just stuck, use a screw-driver and carefully insert the driver between the hose and air-box, slowly work your way around the hose. It'll come loose eventually!!!!!

I know what your problem is... you probably don't have enough slack. Just remove the front part of the airbox. Should be 3-4 thumb screws. That should give you enough room to replace the filters...

Just bend the smooth tubes with a little elbow grease until they slip off the throttle body, then unclip the airbox and ****!

Exactly, why take the tubes off. Remove the front part of the box. 3 thunb screws and alittle wiggle and off she comes!

Lining up the hole when reinstalling takes alittle more care, but it's like a walk in the park.

Front and center for the 1st, then lower down on either side at the back! Must be careful to have proper seal when reinstalling!

i found the three thumb screws, one in the center on the side closest to the engine and two on the sides closest to the front fascia, undid them, and undid all the clasps, top and bottom. I managed to get the top of the box loose by something is preventing the bottom of the box from separating. with my limited mechanical experience im a little leary about tearing parts from my car. is there anything else i should be looking for? i feel like its the center of the bottom edge of the box thats not coming out. any ideas?

I take the tubes off.

If you still want to try taking the tubes off, just use pliers to pinch that metal band around it, and then wiggle it off while pinching that band together.

If you don't, then look for another clasp you might have missed. There shouldn't be anything else holding it in.

Yep, I know what you mean... it will seem like something is holding the bottom of the box down. There's not... it's just a tight fit. You can't just move the box front to back... you'll have to lift UP on the box, and THEN forwards. On the underside of the box are what I believe drain tubes that are snagging on the frame of the car. That's why lifting up and then forward worked for me...

Oh, and I want to re-emphasize what Bigfoot said... that you must make a tight seal when putting the new filters in. It is very easy to overlook this. The easiest way to check that you did this is to make sure that the clips go back on easy, on both the top and bottom edges. If you have to force them, then you know you probably don't have them sealed correctly.

thanks for the heads up Achilles, yeah the clips went on easy when put the box back together, but im kinda worried that as i was tugging on the box one of the filters may have come out of place a bit, and therefore is not seated correctly now that the box is back together. I guess this gives me more incentive to go in there and raise hell. So just lift the box up and out when the top edge is out?

If you're unsure, just go ahead and take it apart again Should take you about 2 minutes after you are used to it. And yes, when the top edge is out, just lift the box up and out. Make sure all clips are off... I believe 8 clips total (4 on topside, 4 on bottomside).
