Are front and rear O2 sensors the same?

Basically, I want to replace my rear O2 sensors. I have an extra set of front O2 sensors off a '00 GTS in perfect condition. Can I use these in the back of my '98 GTS?

Just replaced mine,parts shop said they are the same but my plug was different ,front then the back.I have a 97.

There should be no rear O2 sensors on a 97, That started with 98's I believe and that is why you need O2 simms if tha cats are gone on 98 and newer.

There are rear 02 sensors on 96 and 97.

Maybe it's one of those universal O2 sensors

Someone had told me that the rear O2 sensor had to be a quicker firing sensor since it was further from the heat source. Seems like I have heard of using the rear sensor in the front location to avoid check engine lights due to slow sensor warmup. Not sure if that info is correct though.
