Arizona Summer!!

Hey..any Zonies out there? I have had a sweet 93 for about 8 months. The car has 11K miles, runs and rides flawlessly. This will be its first Phoenix area summer. Other than the obvious (avoiding the 101 at rush hour) any cautionary tidbits you can offer? The car has AC and the previous owner was very meticulous about maintenance, so the cooling system shoulod be in good shape. The car does drift towards the yellow zone but so far it has not been too bad. I guess you could park the car for the summer, sort of a reverse cycle to our friends in the great white north, but what is the fun in that? Is a cooling system burp really necessary?? Or more radical cooling system mods?

Sweet Ride! Everyone knows the '93's are the nicest and fastest - in my totally unbiased opinion - of course!

Nothing finer that driving with the top off and the AC blasting.

Sorry for the slow response Aztrek. The creapiest thing in my service manual is the section where is basically says if the temp guage is not buried, you are fine. I don't think many of us agree with that. Last summer my car ran what I thought wast he ragged edge topping 225 regularly in 105F+ weather. I went with the big PWR Australian triple pass radiator from WCV along with the their overdrive water pump and it makes a huge difference. I finally managed to get the car to 225 in stop-n-go traffic in the big heat this afternoon, but as soon as I was moving it retreated to its regular 205-210 and is doing great. How has your car been doing heat-wise now that the temps are here?

I'm interested in a run to the Pavilions this Saturday if any other Phoenix-area Vipers would like to go. Probably close to the last Saturday before the heat becomes unbearable.

Thanks PhoenixGTS...nice ride! I have an early 93 which has the yellow "caution" zone which I think starts at about 225. I flirt with that once in a while but when moving it is usually in the 210 215 range. Sounds like that is not too bad. If I'm driving the car it is usually late afternoon or early evening so I avoid the really nasty temps. I'm not really comfortable when it is pusing 250 though, I can't believe that is safe...but it sounds like I'm good to go...but hey it hasn't got really hot yet, we will see...The car came with a hard top and AC, when it is 110 I say screw the open air experience!!!

Oh yea, my car runs close to the red in stop-and-go ... otherwise, at cruising speeds it gets to 210-220. Haven't had any problems however I usually leave it at home if it gets beyond 105 degrees out.
