Bottom Slide

Hi friends!
Does somebody have an answer to this ??
As I was watching the underneath of my 1999 GTS ( sublime view ! ), I wondered what is the specific function of that thick alluminium (?) slide screwed to the frame between rear tires ??
I thought :
1) it is a slide intended for off-road protection of the diff.
2) it is a tool provided to stiffen the frame

If it's n. 1 I will remove it immediately, wy should I carry it around ??
If it's n. 2 , then it might be fixed much better.

Do the ACRs and race-snakes carry it ??

1) Yes. + Lowers high-speed turbulence under the vehicle. Under-body turbulence is VERY undesirable at speed!
2) Unsure! But I think it's unlikely because of the mounting method.

It doesn't seem that my question arose a lot of concern...
Thanks Fletcher, I didn't consider tha anti-turbolence purpose, you are surely right.
Remains to be known if ACRs models mount it or not......
(I don't have many opportunities to see an ACR here in Italy, as you cann immagine!!)
