Breaks?

I just got my 2000 RT-10, and the breaks keep making noise. I took it to the local Dodge Dealer and had them check the breaks. They said the front pads needed replaced. So i get them done. 3 Weeks later the breaks are still making noise. I take it back to the dealer and they said the breaks are fine, and they are suppose to make noise. I am having them replace the rear pads to see if this makes it better.

Is it true that the breaks always make noise? Or am i going to the wrong place to have them checked, or am i just being paranoid.

I live in Lawrenceville NJ 08648.

Brakes will make a noise if brand new. Depending on how much you've driven the car since you put them on, the noise may be normal and go away in the future after you put some more miles on them. Some brake pads are made from material that may always make some noise. Did you have them install OEM pads?

New "Brakes" squeal and some always squeal, so I would say nothing to be concerned about but it does get annoying after time if it continues.

Back when the stock brakes were on my car they squeeled pretty good under light braking, but a change to better pads fixed that quick.

Upgrade the rotors and get EBC Red Stuff pads.... quiet as a mouse. Or maybe I just cannot hear them because of my exhaust

My stock 01 squealed like a stuck pig. EBC greens with Disc Brake Quiet and a real thorough clean up of the rotors with 3M Roloc solved the problem. I just bought some EBC reds, so we'll see if they are quiet.

There are a number of products to help stop brake squeak on the market. Check with your local NAPA store. I have found that the paste style products work the best. You apply it to the back of the pads and it helps quiet them down quite a bit.

Also, make sure your rortors are not grooved or glazed. Grooved rotors can act like a record and when the pads hit the rotor, it gets it a-squealin'. The rotors may need to be resurfaced. You could always go with a drilled or slotted rotor as well. These generally don't squeal but they make an intersesting sound when you apply the brakes. It's not appealing to everyone.

Finally, make sure that when you get new pads you bed them in properly. Improperly bedded pads can start making noise within a few days. It usually involves 4 or 5 medium stops from 30mph, 4 or 5 60-75% stops from 45mph, and 4 or 5 90-100% stops from 50+mph.

Any/all/none of these things may help. Good luck!

Alaways take care not to break your brakes. If you do break your brakes the broken brakes will be much more broken than ones you break in easily. And if you do break your brakes prematurely due to a hard break in you will be broke earlier than if you broke the brakes in easy.

OEM brakes need to be worked! Best thing to do is to drive her a little harder [trust me, she'll like it!! ]! You have a good braking system, i.e. When coming to a stop light/sign, hesitate a little longer before you start braking! Once you bring the temperature up in the brakes you will find your brake noise will be gone or almost gone. "Character of the beast"
