Bumping or knocking sound when changing gears

while driving.I have a 2000 rt...almost totally stock and 35,000 miles.Any ideas?

Engine mounts, tranny mount, loose A arms, probably rear axle U joints (check out my classified ad ViperClub Classifieds - Dana rear axle shafts - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds) if you need these, loose wheels, loose shock, etc.

Could be almost anything, anywhere from your description. Loud? coming from the front, bottom, top trunk, glove box, right side?

THX TED.coming from under the middle arm rest (under clutch/gear box?)- as far as i know everything like axle and wheels are tight. like a clunk sound or thumping sound just once each time i change a gear while driving.

Probally a tranny mount..

Although i'm new to this viper thing. It seems like it's not uncommon that engine/tranny mounts go out on these cars at 20-30k miles because of their age. I know when my 97 starts camming and rocking back and fourth there is a knock from the motor mounts letting go.

On that note...

Where is the best place to buy Woodhouse motor/tranny mounts?

My tech says it's the front bearing in the transmission - normal sound. They can shim the axial shaft play out, but it will return after a bit.

I read a lot about the tranny over at the Alley and based on that decided that the T56 is a strong, but noisy unit.

When I changed the fluid at like 20K miles or so it was still very clean. I have no intentions of worrying about my occasional clunk.

I also know I have good mounts, tight suspension (tech said he's never seen a car so purdy and tight underneath), and good halfshafts (rebuilt them recently). None of those afore mentioned things changed the cluck.

Turn up the radio!!! Sorry...I had to say it. I am a new owner as well and mine did the same thing but I noticed if I take the tach up a little higher brfore shifting, it did not do it any more. Low RPM shifting made mine noticable.

YES Low rev shifting it is way more of a noticible knocking sound in every gear.I am talking just street driving (50-60 km)

Check your tranny mount for sure. sometimes it only takes hitting a pothole while doing a burnout to bust tranny and motor mounts. In the old days htat would often bust the tranny or rear axle so busting a mount is a good thing.

No car is designed for pothole burnouts - that's what Monster trucks are built for. Chrysler designed the mounts to be the weak spot and bust first.

Sure, and sometimes with my eyes closed! It really gets exciting then! Actually, when I first got the car and was not familiar with the characteristics of the beast, I drove it like a little old lady. (oops, do not mean to offend any females. I am sure we have some women that could kick my butt on a track) I was shifting too soon. If I take it up above 2500 or so it does not clunk or knock when shifting.
