I went to a cruise in last night. Heard another Viper won a door prize, so I went to find him. There he was hidden in a corner (first clue). Was supposed to be a 97 GTS, with side exhaust, funny looking front end and huge side vents?? Wish I had a camera, but afraid he would have broken it. Didn't go ask what the base car was or who made the kit. My mother told me if nothing good to say..... Have seen pics of similar kits on this board before. Why oh why?

If there's a market, someone will make it. Can I say Shelby Cobra without Caroll breathing down my neck.

I just do not know why people do things like that. The only thing worse that a person with a Viper kit car is a person with a Viper kit car trying to win a car show contest.

I only half agree with you, some of the Viper kits are REALLY bad. Thats why I started to build my own. Built from the ground up, chassis, suspension (both aluminium) and the body was hand carved from foam and clay then moulded in fibreglass. I couldn't afford a real viper at the time but with the money I spent on the replica I could have bought a real one. It was fun, and even fooled viper owners.
I will try to post some photos

Luv em or Lothe em, you've got to be amazed by Colins talents to replicate the viper in his own garage, with only tiny models to work off and a big lump of polystyrene, doubt he'd even seen a viper in real life before getting his project under way

Are they based on any car?
I mean, I've never seen someone who got the hood that good, sicne most cars aren't correct for the proportion of the sides... Amazing. If he'd replace the MX5 (Miata) headlights with real Viper headlights it would be one of the best kitcars ever, not only of Vipers.

The headlights stuck out real quick, wheels, tires, etc. And it just doesn't look RIGHT.
But it is the best FAKE Viper I have seen.

But I hope I don't see anymore! :p

It took me 4 times reshaping the bonnet to get it that close. I had viper lights on the yellow car, my first car, then due to the price of them I changed to MX5. As everybody says it spoils the car and was going to change for my next car back to viper lights.
But instead I used the money to buy a real 94 RT/10

There were several things I did like about the replica's, the aluminium chassis and other lightwieght parts made them about 400kg (880lbs) lighter than an original, made a big differance, designing the suspension myself allowed me to set the car up the way I like it, it was right hand driving, I prefer that here in Scotland and replacing parts did not cost a fortune

I enjoyed my cars but am also glad to have an original.

Need to try something new now. Remember to check out my mini vipers www.miniviper.com

Some people will challenge their talents and create something from scratch if they want it badly enough. They do it for themselves. Their game is not keeping up with the Joneses.
