Can you use another brand synthetic oil than Castrol Syntorque?

How about Valvoline or Mobil 1 in the transmission instead of the syntorque?

GM uses the T-56 and has a synthetic manual transmission fluid for about $18/qt, and it comes in quarts. While the Viper version may have different gears or stronger parts, no one has said the synchros are of different material (speak up if you know.) It's the frictional characteristics of engagement you want to choose correctly.

I wasn't sure if there were different properties in the oil that would make or break the transmission. I thought synthetic Gear Lube was gear lube, but don't want to chance it on the Viper.

I heard Redline was not the way to go with many different people...so I think I will stay away from that.

Not sure about the sychros, but I think the Viper T56 uses carbon fiber blocker rings.

I used Redline in mine, and I can actually tell a difference! It seems a little smoother.

Check your model year, the Viper T56 came with both types of rings, leading to the confusion about whether it's OK for some to switch from ATF to the light gear oil. I've since rebuilt mine and the rebuild kit had the metal rings, meaning the gear oil is acceptable.
