Can\'t hear my blinkers

OK, I'm driving along (RT/10) and look down at the turn signal indicators and for the hundredth time I notice my signal indicator is blinking, and I haven't changed lanes for 15 minutes! Like an old geezer I'm cruising along for God knows how long with my signal on.

Also, it's hard to see the indicator light when the sun is bright. So maybe the hearing isn't quite as good, but with the engine noise, stereo on, and road noise there's no way to hear the blinker indicator.

Anyone done anything creative in this area. I may just buy a new blinker module, plug it in and hope it's somewhat louder.

Re: Can\'t hear my blinkers

I think it is the curse of the roadster. I admit it... I have done it also. It's not like we are driving Yugos where no one would notice. I am now in the habit of checking my blinkers often.....heck I am only 37....

Has anybody thought of using ear-plugs while driving with the top off? I am wondering if my hearing is going to get fried.

I know that years ago they used to sell louder blinker relays for louder vehicles. I would bet that you could get one to fit a Viper.

Re: Can\'t hear my blinkers

Ron,

I've never seen anyone drive with ear plugs, but I have heard of people doing it that have sustained a loss of hearing from loud noises. It's most likely illegal to do since it impairs your ability to hear an emergency vehicle. Any constant exposure to sound greater than 80 db can cause a loss of hearing. Many of those kids who thump down the road have fell victim to hearing loss. Their systems were usually much much more than 80 db. I've never run into someone who has lost their hearing due to cabin noise from an exhaust, but if your ears are ringing after you have driven a while, then you are doing damage. Remember what it was like to go to a concert with a loud band and your ears rang the whole time after?

Get custom flat frequency earplugs from your local audiologist!

The plugs are available in 15db, or 25db reduction. They are made by WESTONE LABS. The cost is about $125.00 including a hearing test. These are not to be confused with foam earplugs that block all of the high frequencies! You will hear better in any noisy situation!

I am a drummer and Viper owner who has "Tinnitus" or permanent ringing in my ears. It is maddening. A top-down Viper with cat-back exhaust probably makes 100db or so of noise. Hours of exposure will cause permanent hearing loss I guarantee. This is why OSHA has safety hearing requirements. From your saw, leaf blower, Viper, stereo, mower, etc. They all make alot of noise.

Protect your ears. Hearing doesn't grow back, and the ringing never stops! You are not a ****** if you wear plugs. Just ask Pete Townshend of "The Who". He say's "if it's too loud, your too stupid". As we all know, the Who were a quiet little English combo! Same thing goes for the "Invinceble" Harley riders with straight pipes! It's just not "Manly" to wear them. Grow up and smell the hearing aids bikers.

Sincerely,

Jim Wallace

Re: Can\'t hear my blinkers

I like to carry some soft ear plugs for passengers. I haven't used them myself because of emergency vehicles, etc. I often wonder about hearing damage, especially after long drives. I don't get any ringing, but do feel a little light headed (like after air travel) sometimes.

I also leave my blinkers on for long periods of time.

Greg, I feel your pain! We've all done it and after you realize it, you feel about an inch tall and sink in the seat some. I keep thinking ppl are driving by me thinking "what an dunce driving that Viper" when I do it..

Just try and remember to manually turn it off....
