So I go out to the car this morning, turn the key, push the button, and get a rat-a-tat-tat. Try again, get a weak attempt at starting, but then nothing again. So what's up, the battery? Something else? If it's the battery, what one should I get and where from?

There was always hype about having a certain battery in Gen 2s (can't recall which one), not the case with Gen 3s?

Have you put a volt meter to it? If it's "clicking", it could just be a bad connection (corrosion, etc). Or it could just be too weak. How old is it?

I haven't checked it out, I just tried it twice, then jumped in the truck to come to work. It is the stock / original battery in it, so about 4 years old.

I just replaced mine with Interstate Mega-Tron. It was $110 out the door. The down side is in a GenIII, battery can be seen from the back. The OEM was black, Interstate is white so it sticks out like white hood vents.:lmao::lmao:

i am using odyssey 925 in my '03 and another performance car I own for a few years now with no failures so far. It saves considerable weight but it is smaller than stock so you need to build support around it to keep it secure. I used highdensity foam.
Not to rain on anyones parade but personally I would not buy another Optima as two have failed prematurely and warranty is worthless.

Could be battery or alternator. Go to Wal-Mart, and buy a Schumacher battery charger in the auto section (buy the middle one, I think it's 12A for $50). The beauty of it is that it can be a trickle charger, battery charger, as well as diagnose bad batteries. It tells you how much of a charge you have left (%), and what voltage is coming out. It works great, I used it on my Viper after I left the key in the ignition and ran the battery down. Also diagnosed wife's Cayenne after I wired heat seaters to the wrong hot wire and ran the battery down (battery was bad, and charger told me that).

4 years is probably a battery change scenario, but I'd buy the Walmart charger anyhow for future use. Who knows, your battery just might need to be topped off.

Good to hear you got it going and what kind of battery did you end up buying?
