While im waiting to get my engine back from the engine builder, I decided to have my buddy do some powdercoating for me. I always wanted to change the engine color and went with a metallic charcoal color. depending on the light it looks like it has blue/green flakes in it or orange. Unfortunately the pics dont do the work justice but you get the idea.

I told him to make them look wet when the color was done and he did. now the logo's on the valve covers wont discolor either.

here is what my buddy did for me....

his site is http://www.trgcoating.com if you ever need any work done. mention my name and he will hook you up with good prices on great quality work.

I KNEW YOU WOULD GO WITH A GREY! I have to admit I like smooth on those parts more than wrinkle. I had a smooth grey (lighter than yours) on mine and although I liked it in general the grey color clashed with the Silver of the car. Now that I went with a grey wrinkle I kind of wish I located a smooth option. THE RED HAS GOT TO GO! Best bling mod for the buck on a Viper. I hope you ordered new injector o-rings?

PhoenixGTS, this is mostly your fault..lol. i always liked the idea of a different color and liked yours being the car is the same color. i wanted a contrasting color and my buddy actually picked this color out long before i asked him to PC it. i totally trust him when it comes to colors and all since its what he does for a living. and the new injector o-rings are here.

thanx guys. now just gotta get that dang engine back and running.

Denny, im trying like heck. at worst, im gonna drive down and hang out anyways.

It looks great. How did the PC come out in between the intake runners? I would think it's not easy to get an even coating on the verticle surfaces in between.

i will post pics if i ever get the engine back in and running...

the runners came out good but drove him crazy. he's a real perfectionist and is even crazier when its my car he's doing stuff for.

Looks great Phil. I'm thinking of doing mine soon too. I'll give them a call. BTW, I'm heading up to Romar Racing this week for a tune. I'll ask them about your engine...actually, I lost track of it...I think it was Romar that was working on it last? :D

Josh, it cost me lunch to be honest. he's a very good friend. I know he learned a lot doing it and it would cost a few bucks for him to do it again. assuming they wanted it done right.

best bet is to call Russ at trgcoating.com and tell I sent you.

Those looke great Phil! When I had mine done, I had them apply clear coat powder and that really made them look great. It looks like you did the same. When you get your engine back and install your DLM setup get black hoses for the top three connections and that should look badass!!!

One mistake I made was not to cover all the different openings which not only powder coated things like the throttle body areas, fuel line threads, etc. Also, the interior of the intake had a bunch of the blasting media everywhere. I had to use a bunch of degreasers high pressure blasts of water/degreaser to clean all the crap out.

I removed the baffles from the valve covers prior to the powder coating so they were ok. If they aren't removed or covered you will wind up with a bunch of blast media in there too so be carefull or your engine may go BOOM!

I also used various sized scrubbers to get in the runners; one of which was a baby bottle cleaner brush. When I bought it a the grocery store the lady at the check out counter asked me how old my baby was!!! She looked at me really weird when I told her it was to clean some automotive parts!!

Also, from learning the hard way; for those who get powder coating in places they shouldn't be, methylene chloride will remove it. Products such as gasket remover and paint remover will do the trick (as long as they have methylene chloride as the main ingredient). Places like Home Depot sell a product made by JASCO that is a gell and works great. It takes a few applications, but be patient, and don't get that crap on your hands! It makes them feel like they are on fire (again learning the hard way).

Ok, enough rambling, I'm off to poke myself in the face with a hot soldering iron, to see what that feels like!!!:crazy2:

Just caught this, Phil---the powder coating looks awesome, will look GREAT in your car.
Kyle at Romar IS very, very good at what he does, and so young!! Good luck with all the work, and would also love to see pics of your 'improved' version. ~juli~

Here is one with not as much glare so you can tell the true color of the motor.
