Any one have a cooling fan fail in the SRT-10? Mine is getting very rough, vibrating and is a bit scary loud when it comes on.

I called my local dealer today and found that they are on national back order. I guess of few of them have failed.

I think mine is starting to have issues. It make noise just after start up untill the fan gets up to speed....time to look at alternatives. What do you think?

start by checking the PS system fluid color and levels. If it is very close to black, it is a good bet that something is failing. What exactly, is not so easy to always tell- and also not so easy to always diagnose the ORIGINAL problem. it is quite possible a failing Rack's metallic shavings could take a fan motor out of comission before it fails itself, etc.

Lots of SRT's, lots of miles... not many failures out of the recall cars. I have yet to see a failure around here. Not to mention, this system is used in other cars by Chrysler, no issues there either.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the note. As a racer, I regularly **** the old PS fluid out and replace with new, so no issues there and the level was OK too.

Pulled the air box today after talking with Dan Cragin at DC Performance. Inspected the fan and found that a piece of the plastic fan surround (the round outer rim part that attaches to the top of every one of the ten fan blades) was broken and cracked through. This fan spins pretty fast when revving the engine, so it must be an off balance issue that I'm feeling.

Glad I felt this vibration and stopped driving it. Dan said he has seen a few fan blades break and some have put a hole in the radiator. Not sure how a rock or (bolt?) or anything can get into that space, but is must have.

Now the wait for the part begins ..... as they are still on national back order.

ILLSMOQ,

Also talked with Dan Cragin about an electric fan alternative. He thinks that the OE hydraulic fan is better at moving air and thus keeping the SRT engine cooler. I do know that the 2008 Viper has a twin electric fan set up. I wish that was available now.

X-

Try the Mopar Performance fan delete kit P/N P5153260 and the Phoenix SRT10 electric fan kit P/N PPI123321. It's what they use in T1 racing.

I had the exact same failure on my '04. Happened whil on a road course. I also assumed that something must have gotten jammed in the fan, but now I'm beginning to think it might be a production flaw. Too many identical failures. DC fixed it under warrantee, but I did have to wait a couple weeks for the part.

Hey Valentine,

I got a real close look at this fan unit yesterday and it looks like there may be a joint or seam in the plastic surround that failed as this is where it's cracked.

Still waiting on the part.....
