Copperhead Paint

I need to get my front fascia repainted. How can I get paint so that it will match the rest of the car as this is a very tough color to match.

Has nothing to do with a Dodge dealer. Get the paint code for the Copperhead paint then find a quality paint shop in your area. Especially one that knows and understands that the correct way to paint Viper body panels is to remove them first.

From what I heard from one of my customers was that Copperhead is best matched with factory paint, and that copper head cannot be properly matched with the average paint mix set up at Body shops or paint suppliers. I tend to believe this guy since he got a $12000 pay out from his insurance company because they could not match his paint on an insurance repair.

We would be able to do it, our shop is known for color match, but to bad I'm up in Ohio.

Anyways you best bet is a shop the does exclusivly or has knowledge with custom painting.

Good Luck!!!! I just had several parts painted for my copperhead. In some lights and directions they look perfect and in another light or direction you would think they are a poor attempt at matching the color code. In talking to another paint man yesterday, he said I should have demanded the painter use PPL paint as that is the paint brand used from the factory. I don't know if that would have made a difference or not, but it does make some sense. I'm going to find out tommorrow what paint brand my painter used. It also depends on what material type you are painting (plastic, fiberglass, steel or aluminum).

These new metallic factory paints ARE hard to match up even if you have used the factory paint supplier, factory paint codes, etc.. Best to match them for the usual use. Match the exterior paint to the color in direct sunlight along the largest plane of view for the panels/hood/etc. and the underhood/interior custom items for more of the color in slight shade. I think that is the best you can do or hope for. A quality shop will know what to do to compensate for the material being painted on. I guess all the more reason to have Prefix do it from the factory, but tastes change as you own the car.

Seen a copper coupe a couple of weeks ago locally, he had some body panel ground effects added...at a glance they looked OK, up close they didn't match well. Seemed off a shade or two, and had a more candy look than the original paint.

The whole problem with this color is how the metal flake ends up laying out which is nearly impossible to manipulate. Even blending panels can be impossible, when we have done it we did LARGE test panels and even if it looked like a perfect match once on the contours of the car you could tell a difference at certain angles.

Nothing is impossible, but unless you have the exact paint out of the lot used to paint it originally you will have a long haul ahead to get it perfect.

What NDSnake meant, was PPG paint. Presumably, that is what Chrysler used for the CAAP Plant.

You can have the same exact paint that was even originally used, but its how it is sprayed that also determins the color match. A shop's little spray guns cant 100% match what the factory uses to spray with. Solvent paints are very hard to match, but water born paint is a different story, color match is very good .

Thanks for all the feedback. My research has told me the same thing that factory paint and the way it is sprayed is needed for a perfect match with this paint. You can see what looks like a good match in daylight but when under a neon street light will look like a completely different color if it is not done right. I received a couple helpful PM's that I'll follow up on. Thanks to all.

Ask John B. at Parts Rack for the code or call Chuck Tator and he'll steer you in the right direction. Then take code to a Paint
Specialist that mix's PPG paints. Then you'll get your match correct.

Paint codes are usually on the driver's door label, which has the VIN#, production date, build time, etc.

This is an old Post - just wondering has anyone had success in painting a Copperhead front Fascia to match the rest of the car ? (since this post originated in 2011, we have had 10 years to try! ) VJR3 said that they could do it, and is in Ohio, where I am located. Wondering is he/she still on this board ?
