Well, we removed the two foot long submarines also known as the factory cats, and installed the high flow metal Random Tech.

When I got the RTs in the mail, I actually called the company to ask if this little 9 inch long toy (make your own joke here) was a) Man enough for the job and b) Was going to be so loud I'd need a cotton ball dispenser in the dash. Clay at RT (good guy) assured me the testing proved they were indeed able to handle the Viper and that the noise - in his estimation - was hardly detrimental. JonB had said the same.

Well la tee freakin da... they were BOTH right. ... about that rear muffler.......

THANK YOU for the feeeeedback on this project. That cat flows 483CFM !! Way more than your heads do.... I suggest your next "budget" item would be as discussed to remove the rear muffler, even if just for an hour, or even a short drive. A local shop can do that premanently for $200 or so, retaining your OEM tips. That will wake it up a LOT, but not be obnoxious.

Some might suggest these flow more than YOUR HEAD does, but that's another story. :)

I was considering the siamesed X pipe for the rear, or is this needless? Does that muffle or change the sound much at that point?

Thanks JonB. Taking the Viper on a 3 hour drive (one way) on Wednesday evening, knowing my sill temps will be at something less than flame broil ready.

I went with the RT hi-flow cats and RT cat-back with x-pipe muffler delete. The car is noticeably cooler, and the sound is wow! Definitely louder than stock, but nowhere near as loud as the loudest cars in the Washington club. The RT system gives a nice, deep tone, with really great lift-throttle burble, and some drone at 2000. But who drives around at 2000? I'd do it again in a heart-beat! Got mine from JonB too.

Now for some bellangers.....

Does anybody thermally coat the pipes after the cats are deleted to keep more heat from radiating from the side pipes?

I did mine with VHT. Did it make any difference? Heck, I don't know. But they're not rusty!

Poor man's ceramic? :dunno:

Hey, it looks like an ice cube dispenser to me! I painted mine too.

By the way, just completed the 7 hour round trip (further than I thought!) in the Viper after having the JonB RT cats in there. I can say...

1. Sills are definitely, no doubt about it, COOLER. Air circulates better front to rear, way less scorching surface area.
2. Exhaust change is that idle is deeper, 2500 rpm is deeper, but up to that and past that, virtually no change in db.
3. Acceleration tone is deeper, more growl. Still has the 'uneven' (love it or not) fire sound, just more authority.

I'm very pleased with the change. Will probably leave the rear muffler in... for now.
