What RPM do most of you drive around. I'm not talking about when you're hammering on the car and I'm not talking about doing 80 in 6th gear at 1400 RPM. I mean day in day out normal driving. What would be your average cruising RPMs?

Jeremy - I usually hang around 3,000 and depending upon speed am in third or fourth, just waiting for that opportunity to pounce on the Paxton. :D

Boppin around town, in traffic I tend to keep it in the 2000 - 3000 range between the stoplights. If there's a longer strech between lights, I'll drop it to 4th. I've never touched 5th or 6the in the city that I can remember.

Explaining Viper things to you
2 full gears lower than where anything resembling fuel economy kicks in.

If a bowl of Japanese food pulls up next to me and wants to race I'll be gone before he realizes I saw him. Or her.

Trigger ready. Always.

Cruising? As in just putzing down the road 9 over the limit? 1000-1800. I see no reason to be cruising at 3000 when 1500 does the job at less engine heat and half the wear.

Casual going through the gears between stoplights 2500-3500.

"Spirited" driving...

I am pretty close to these numbers except I don't go below about 1250 rpm to avoid torsional disturbances to the crank and balancer.

I know the skip shift allows lower RPMs, but at very low speeds I don't want the rotating components to be hammered to the point of being able to feel the power strokes of the pistons. Above 1250 at light throttle settings torsionals disturbances appear to be negligible.
