Here is the situation:

I contacted my Viper Tech this morning to schedule an appointment to install the parts listed in my signature. I spoke with him over a month ago (before I ordered the parts) and asked him if he could install all the parts and he said there would be no problem. He told me that when I received all the parts just call up and make an appointment to install them and the car would be ready in about a week. I received the parts today and am all ready to have them installed. But the problem is, when I called this morning to speak with him to schedule the installation I found out he was "let go," or in other words, fired. The dealership did get a new Viper Tech, but when I asked him to schedule an installation appointment for the parts he told me that he cannot install the 3.55 gears. He simply stated that he does not have the expertise to do it. He is currently the only Viper Tech in all of Southern Nevada. I really don't feel comfortable bringing my Viper to a local mechanic and do not have any ability or equipment to do it myself.

I would have loved to use them in my snake but I really have no way of installing them. The local mechanics out here are nothing more than clueless crooks and the only Viper Tech that is here can't and won't install them.

These gears are upgraded from standard 3.55 gears and cost about $150 more. They are brand new and just received today. I took them out of the box to take pictures of them and that's it. They also include the Speedo Recalibration Unit as well as everything else needed for installation. Here are the pictures:

As previously stated, these gears cost about $150 more than standard 3.55 gears. I told this same situation to the vendor I purchased them from and he wants a 10% restocking fee. I would rather pass the savings onto fellow Viper owners than pay a "restocking fee" to do nothing more than just put them back on shelf. Therefore, I will try to sell them here. Figure with tax and shipping these gears alone should come to $850. I'd be happy to at least get what standard gears go for. My asking price is $650.00 shipped via USPS 2-3 Day Priority Mail. That's a savings of over $200.00 and these gears are BRAND NEW. They are currently repackaged and all ready to go. Please PM or e-mail me if interested.

Thanks in advance and make sure you have competent Viper Techs, or at least one, in your area! :2tu:

An alternative is to have a driveline shop install your gears. Many dealerships do not set up their own gear sets, as it is quiet an art. Most ViperTechs do not have the experience setting up gears.

Many of the tuners/mechanics in SoCal ship their differentials to Unitrax in Anaheim to do the setup, and then install the differentials themselves.

Might be worthwhile to contact Unitrax, or your parts supplier, and see if they can recommend a competent driveline shop in your area.

Why don't you either drive to Unitax or contact them to install the gears for you. They're on your side of the country, so shipping should be fairly reasonable. You could drive there, spend the night and drive home with the 3.55's installed. Trust me, they are a great upgrade and I seriously doubt if you'd be disappointed.

Looks like a set of Unitrax gears +. Have a local pull that diff, ship it to Unitrax, they'll set it up and send them back to you. Have your local guy re-install the diff.

Problem solved.

Drive over on a Thursday night.
Drop the car first thing Friday am.
Come down to Crystal Cove for the Sat. am car show.
Drive back Sat. afternoon.

Come to the beach, to beat the heat, for a few days!

Call unitrax and ask for a recommended installer. I have the same gears but the Viper tech who installed them said that the unit is the same as a 4x4 mopar/Jeep and any good 4x4 shop could do it with their eyes closed. Jon B at parts rack said the same thing if I recall. 4x4/truck shops are everywhere. Ask them if they change gears and as soon as they see what is actually in a Viper, they could surely handle it. It is really no big deal, people just hear Viper and think it must be exotic! It surely is not when it comes to the rear end. Good luck...
