1st, I'm a coffee addict.
2nd, all my Viper trips START with a 200mile drive.
3rd, I have been know to 'tune up' other driver's attitudes
on occaission.
After adjusting a Z06 driver's attitude about Vipers, I spent a day cleaning my car and a few days of pain from the scalding I got while the hot coffee poured itself out all over my car and myself. I needed reliable cupholders as the Walmart 'clip-ons' unclipped at any provocation.
Out in the garage I bent and shaped, then drilled and screwed flat pieces of metal until I was satisfied with my product. I installed two into the Viper cabin using the radio attachment screws behind the plastic cover. After a couple more trips I found that under hard cornering the cup holder tended to spin sideways and dump the coffee cup sideways. I also found the driver's side cupholder didn't leave me enough room to turn the key comfortably. Back in the garage I shortened the driver's cup/cell phone holder and used some more screws to stabilize the upright position of the coffee cup.
I have high expectations for these cup holders to shorten my clean-up time spent on the inside of my car. Without a passenger I find the cupholder works perfect to hold my cellphone for easy access. I primered the brackets, then used wheel paint for durability and then finished the brackets in flat black so that they blend into the dash.
Yah, race cars don't have cup holders, but they do have water bottles and tubes in the helmets for long road courses? During low-intensity street 800mi. driving I do need my nourishment and fluids. With the 20mpg it sometimes is a long way between "pit stops".
