1st, I'm a coffee addict.
2nd, all my Viper trips START with a 200mile drive.
3rd, I have been know to 'tune up' other driver's attitudes
on occaission.

After adjusting a Z06 driver's attitude about Vipers, I spent a day cleaning my car and a few days of pain from the scalding I got while the hot coffee poured itself out all over my car and myself. I needed reliable cupholders as the Walmart 'clip-ons' unclipped at any provocation.

Out in the garage I bent and shaped, then drilled and screwed flat pieces of metal until I was satisfied with my product. I installed two into the Viper cabin using the radio attachment screws behind the plastic cover. After a couple more trips I found that under hard cornering the cup holder tended to spin sideways and dump the coffee cup sideways. I also found the driver's side cupholder didn't leave me enough room to turn the key comfortably. Back in the garage I shortened the driver's cup/cell phone holder and used some more screws to stabilize the upright position of the coffee cup.

I have high expectations for these cup holders to shorten my clean-up time spent on the inside of my car. Without a passenger I find the cupholder works perfect to hold my cellphone for easy access. I primered the brackets, then used wheel paint for durability and then finished the brackets in flat black so that they blend into the dash.

Yah, race cars don't have cup holders, but they do have water bottles and tubes in the helmets for long road courses? During low-intensity street 800mi. driving I do need my nourishment and fluids. With the 20mpg it sometimes is a long way between "pit stops".

When I absolutely positively have to drink something in my Viper I drink out of screw cap bottles. Unscrew the cap, take a swig, screw the cap back on and toss it on the passenger seat. No need for a cupholder cluttering up my interior particularly when I wouldn't use it much anyway.

That's why I made cup-holder CLIPS, the actual cup-holders just lift off the screws. The clips remove with a philips screwdriver and take about 7 minutes.

I never let anyone drink or eat anything in my car, especially Mr. Messy himself, ME. The only thing I find excrutiatingly aggravating is the hard ass elbow rest for my left elbow. On long trips the part of the door where the left elbow rests in the SRT's starts to feel like a brick. I find myself constantly adjusting my elbow position to a more comfortable position...to no avail so far. I am seriously considering some kinda mod for that.

Nice work but, i'd be worried about the beverage spashing into the radio and a/c.

On the gen II, I felt a custom cup holder should hang from the ashtray and clip underneath the bottom edge of the center consul, with Velcro holding against the carpet. And make it deep enough to actually work.
I scented my GTS once with a can of Guinness.

The gen III cup holder is useless also. Not deep enough.

We stop at a coffee shop and drink it there. Long trips? Bring bottled water, as Chuck said, bottles with screw-on tops (securely!). Would not drink hot beverages in the Viper.

Wal-Mart solution-- http://forums.viperclub.org/rt-10-g...est-4-00-i-ever-spent-cupholder-solution.html

Its a old thread, but I saw these same cupholders in Wal-Mart a couple weeks ago, so yes they still carry them. I have one, RARELY ever pull it out the trunk, but they do work.

After I read that thread a couple of years ago, I immediately hot-footed it to my local Wal-Mart and purchased that same thing. I absolutely love it. Frankly, unless you know Vipers, you don't know that it isn't part of the car. The black plastic fits in nicely with the black plastic center console and black leather seats.

I've never had the thing move around on me and I've never lost a drink out of it. I also use the center square to hold my cell phone or sunglasses. It's a very handy piece to have. It was $4 well spent!
