I close my driver's side door and after several minutes it opens itself. If I close the door and press the door button, it usually opens after a couple or seconds instead of right away. I am assuming that I have a short in the wiring loom between the door and the car. A new part for this costs around $120. It seems like for this price, it is better to just buy the new part than to hack the old one. What do you think?

it sounds like the short maybe at the door button. I i think you can take the inside cover off the door. the upper portion, and clean the electronics, and connections with contact cleaner and try that. until then why not disconnect the battery under the hood, above the pcm until you have time to fiddle with it. door wont pop open if you cut the power. just make sure you either leave the window down to get in again or take the keys out.

This could be the "old broken wiring harness in the door hinge issue".

Check your wires in the door hinge. Pull back the rubber boot and tug each wire to make sure none are broken.

I'm suspecting that any electrical problem in the driver door would likely be a result of this.

Silver Snake, I did also post into the "How has your Viper opened doors for you ?" because I thought it was funny too. BTW, I opened the door, manually clicked the locking mechanism shut using a screwdriver, then moved the door in and out. I could get it to unlock just doing that, so it is definetely the "old broken wiring harness in the door hinge issue" as GTSnake says. I've got a new wiring harness ordered and our local Viper guy lined up to get it fixed.
