I was thinking on installing door poppers on my 99 RT/10. Who all has done this? Do you like them and are you glad you did it? How much did you pay for them, and how much did it cost to have them installed?

Hey mustangjay.... I'm in the middle of doing this now :) The door panel is a PITA to remove. I ordered my door popper kits from www.auto-accessories.com as detailed in the online how to. With shipping/tax, etc it was about $65, and they came in a day. There's a guy on ebay that was selling the same popper kits for $15 each, but I don't see them now... I'll let you know how it turns out, but I'm stuck at the moment :)

Why would you put door poppers on a 99? It has an exterior door handle? The Gen 1's need the door poppers due to no exterior door handle.

While ther is some "cool factor" with the door poppers - I would agree with the above statement. Not a very technically challenging project, but just enough of a pain to ask why if you have external door handles.

Don't know if others can add in, but I added the 15 pound actuators and I have often wondered if the 45 pound actuators would have worked better. Mine work fine if the Viper is parked flat, but if I am on a slight incline, the do not "pop" as effectively. Also does not "pop" as effectively if I have the soft top on at times. There's not a huge difference in price either - so I'm not sure if there's any down side to going with the more heavy duty rating.

Best "cool story" I had with the poppers is I had the key fob in my pocket. I had this little kid say "Open Viper" and I hit the fob without her knowing. She was amazed that my Viper listened to her command.

Rocket62,
Both the 15 pound, and the 45 pound only pull the lever to unlatch the door and have nothing to do with the door actually "popping" open - that is the door itself, just as if you pull the inside handle without applying "open pressure". I have been considering installing spring pushers to actually "POP", push the door open. These springs are compressed when you close the door, but am unsure as to how much stress then put on the door - and where to mount.

I put a set of these poppers on a 96 Vette that I had even though it had door handles, very convenient. I have them on my 95 Viper and it was one of the first modifications I did to the car. Pretty easy install and well worth the money. I went with the 45 pound instead of the 15 and decided against installing the actual poppers. There is no room under the door for them so the only place that they can go is on the trailing edge of the door sill and when they are out they protrude about an inch when the door is open. Seams like it would be pretty easy to hang up on when entering and exiting
