Strange... this is the first for me.

Everything was working fine yesturday, up until late last night. I moved from one location to another, went to lock my car... and nothing. No beep, no lights. So I tried a few more times. Figuring my battery was dead in my fob, I replaced it (had a spare in my glove box) Still nothing... ??

So I turned the car on... then turned it back off. Got out of the car again, closed the door... tried locking it... same thing. ? I moved everything into my trunk and left my viper unlocked cause I had no choice. Came back an hour later, viper was fine. Tried to lock it... STILL nothing. Drove all the way home, and tried again. Nothing still. I don't have my second fob (it's at my buds house 4 hours away... long story) I don't think the fob is broken, as it was working fine minutes earlier.

Is there a fuse thats seperate from the door system that I should check? I checked the ones in the engine compartment... all fine.

Thanks guys!

press both buttons for 10 seconds and wait for a honk (from the car).
If it honks all is well.
If not, not ....

Sweet... I did the reset thing (holding down both buttons for 10 seconds) and it worked. What the hell... what would cause this? So strange. :p

Thanks VPRGTS for posting the reprogramming instructions... I'll definitely ebay another copy and keep em in my garage. But Yeah... getting my second set from my buddy is #1.

Thanks again guys!

Just saw this and pleased to see you got perfect advice. I had a similar experience once and, like you, figured the 10 second repair was WAY too easy to work...but it does!

WELCOME. :D

It happened to me (sometimes) when I had the FOB in my pocket (jeans)....walking around, sitting down, ...up....and the buttons get pressed....out of sync with the computer in the car after a while because the alarm uses a "rolling code".

Most of the times I carry the FOB and key around my neck on a lanyard. Easy fix.

The transmitter and receiver got "out of whack". I've seen radio towers mess with the fob and if 2 cars lock at same time, I've seen that mess with the frequency. :dunno:

Explaining Viper things to you
It's described in one of the manuals, either the service or owner's, that after like 250 transmits from the fob that DO NOT result in contact with the car, the fob will need resetting. Or something like that.

Moral of story: Stand close enough to car for the fob to communicate with EECM.
