Drivers side door sill trim melted

I have a 2005 SRT10 that I bought in November. The car runs great, no engine misfires at all. Today I was driving and ran into bumper to bumper traffic. My left seat, door panel and door sill trim panel got so hot I had to move my arm away. Also, the door sill trim panel melted. Once I got up to cruising speed it cooled down. I have read about solutions like removing the catalytic converters and getting rid of the crossover. Problem is I live California so removing cats is not permitted. There are no fault codes on the system and like I said, it runs great. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. I added a photo of the trim panel.

Clearly by far, the easiest remedy is to move out of California.

So does the state of Cali still test emissions after 15 years?
I wouldn't remove the cats but i would look into some Hi-Flows.

Yes, California tests cars all the way back to 1976. So ridiculous. I am looking into the Belanger system with high flow cats. Vivid Racing won’t deliver the system because it doesn’t meet California requirements. I’m looking into seeing if Belanger will send it.

Those sills get hot, but you have an issue on that side. Either the fueling is off or there is a misfire that you cannot detect. You need to look at the
fuel trims on that side of the motor with a scanner.

I replaced the OEM exhaust with a cat back system and wrapped them with exhaust insulation. Cool in every sense of the word.

The best thing ANY Gen 3 owner can do is what Arnold did above ^^^, sh!tcan the stock system in favor of ANYTHING without the crossover.

Thanks for all the replies. Since I have no plans to move out of California, I have decided to install the Belanger system with the high flow catalytic converters. I also need to find a new door sill molding. Thanks again!

I wrapped my gen 2 exhaust and the side sills still get hot to the touch.

You need to listen to Dan. The root cause is not exhaust problems as the cat is not working right. Your cat could be clogged, etc.

You need to find out why.
