I have a set of dunlop 8000's on my viper. I have to find out when the original owner got them but any one know the life span on these? I am not getting crap for traction the last two months. I wonder if they are all dried up.

SP 8000's are old tire technology. Didn't the SP 9000 take it's place like two/three years ago? Not really sure about your set, but I was running them on a 500hp late model 300ZX back in the mid/late 1990's and they were OK.
I know the origial POS pilots that came with my 97 GTS were crappy hard bricks when I bought it early 2003.(original set of tires)
I would suggest getting rid of 'em for something newer.

I would go with new pilots if I were you. (I drive mine daily also). Guys have posted that they don't get much mileage from a set of kuhmos, only a few thousand miles with hard driving, and they sandblast the paint off of the fender wells, BUT they hook much better than pilots, and corner way better than BFG drag radials. I have not run a set of Kuhmo's, I'm just spewing information I've read a hundred times on this site. ;)

those are the dot race khumos, not the street versions. They are pretty good. The Z06 guys love em. Cheep too!

Dot race khumos are the ones to buy. If you got 5k miles out of them and they cost $600 for four, you would be spending 12 cents a mile.

Has anyone ran Kumho tires? I am getting ready to but a set but I am curious on the life expectancy. At $188 each I guess that they could last 1/2 as long as Pilots and it would still be a bargain.

Forget Kumho's - you save nothing - you will spend more than the savings on paint.

Michelin Pilot Sports are the only way to go. Talk to a few Viperdays guys like me and Redsled - we have raced on these tires and they are rock solid and grippy as hell once you get them hot

Call Zisser Tire ( 800-869-8992 ) as the owner ,John Zisser is a great guy. He knows his Vipers , also, as he owns a couple and he is very competitive. You need to go with Pilots if you are driving everyday. The Kumhos, Toyos, etc. work great at the track, but they will wear much quicker, and they are not as good an all around tire as the Pilot Sports. If you were doing alot of track (Drag or Road Course ) your choice would be different, and considering you live in Nevada, the heat and sand would do a number on your body with the soft compound of the Kumhos or Toyos.

Good Luck.

For the Viper? Which ones? I used to have Kumho Ecsta 712's (not great) and Kumho MX's (felt as good as S03's or Pilots to me). However, I have not seen them in Viper sizes...
