I personally am excited about the potential of the flex fuels. Regular gas is usually a ratio of 90 percent gasoline:10 percent ethanol. E85 inverts that formula at 85 percent ethanol: 15 percent gasoline. Ethanol is an alcohol-based fuel (primarily from corn) but doesn't get the gas milage a hybird does or even that of a gasoline engine; actually only about 80% of it. The reason is a gallon of E85 has only 72 percent of the energy in a gallon of gasoline. However the mile you drive E85 gas is one less than on conventional gasoline. It's current claim to fame is it's good for the environment (ethanol is water soluble and bio-degradable with fewer contaminants than gasoline) but I'd just like to see the United States less dependent on foreign oil. Unfortunately the price for E85 is about the same as regular gas, but I'm hopeful this will drop as it becomes more popular.

And let's not overlook the fact that it's 100 octane! :D

Cost varies depending on location. Here in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, E85 can be had for ~.40 less than regular unleaded. Premium is .20 higher than regular. Without doing any math, I'd say that 60 cent difference more than makes up for the loss in fuel mileage. I'm pretty sure 100 octane gasoline is going to be in the neighborhood of $5.00/gal. E85 at $2.50/gal looks pretty good!

I think hydrogen is a better choice but no matter, I'm willing to pay extra for E85 if the result means less money for the Middle East.

Google - e85 octane rating - Saab reports say 110oct

Been hearing about it. Good to see the vid. Hopefully SVS will come here and post any difficulties they've had.

Once we reach our goals we'll have more complete information gathered to better discuss our knowledge of the parameters around using e85 for high performance.

We're testing e85 with N/A and Turbo street Vipers along with the TTX in the vid and our Shop TTRS Race Viper. We have more planned for the TTX very soon and will be heading to Bonneville in August with our TTRS.

Thank you for the educational lesson. I knew very little about the fuel until now. I am sure that prices will drop on it once it becomes popular. Just need enough people to jump on the bandwagon.
