Title says it all. Was filling up my tire's air when some guy in his 40s asked me what kind of car I was driving. I replied back wit "It's a Viper.". Then the guy says "Oh, the front is the same as a Corvette, I thought it was some kind of new Corvette.". Wondering if anyone else has ran across this problem or if this is going to be an isolated incident.

That would happen to me quite often with a black gen3 I used to have. I would also get the trying to compensate BS from quite a few folks to.

Put some stripes on her. I think a viper with stripes is more "viper" looking and not as likely to be mistaken for a vette:dunno:

It will happen all the time on a non striped Gen 3 or 4. Never had it happen with my Gen 2 but its happened a few times with my Gen 3. They do look similar when you look at them directly from the front. The funniest thing was when my buddy and I were parked on the street and a dad and his young son walked by and the little kid looked at my Viper and said "look dad.. a Corvette".... of course my buddy howled and then the kid kept walking and got beside my buddies car and got excited again and said "look look dad....another Corvette"...my buddy shut up and it was my chance to howl........ HE WAS DRIVING A DIABLO....hahahaha.. He will never live that down. I wish i had it video'd....lol

When I had my red gen 3 I had an old lady come in while I was getting my hair cut and said that's a pretty corvette out there. Some people just don't know cars.

Became more of an issue when the C6 came out in 05 with the first exposed headlights in 32 years. Imitation sincerest form of flattery. Having said that I had one of the first C6s and liked it.

Still trying to think of a vanity plate, maybe "NOTAVET".

My car is badgeless and STILL nobody has ever confused it for a vette:omg:. I've had people circle it trying to figure out what it is but no mention of anything Chevy.

I live where there are VERY few Vipers in 100 miles or more. Usually people will see it and go, "OMG a Viper". or come over at the gas station and take pictures, etc, etc. Every once and a while I will get a "Nice Corvette", usually from a little kid. I have had it called a Ferarri once.

But here is the most amazing one to me. Took it to a relitively big car show this summer. I entered in Mopar 2000 and up but I wasn't sure I had the right number down. So I asked the guy at the gate if I had the right class and he replied, "No, you need to be in the corvette class!" I was shocked! I mean these are car club guys running this thing. My response was, "But it's not a corvette." He looked at the car again and fell all over himself apologizing. We both laughed and he got me parked in the right spot. I really just think he wasn't paying that close of attention.

edit: Oh I want to add something too. I think we have to admit that the Gen3 + 4 Vipers have a similar look to Corvettes. But does the Viper look like a Vette or does the Vette look like a Viper? To me the Vette has copied the Viper look. Take for example the head lights. Viper style in '03 Vette coppied it in their '05 and up. That wide stance has been a trademark of the Viper. Vettes were always a narrow car until Vipers came out. You tell me.

I remember driving through a parking lot once and a bystander yelled out, "nice Ferrari". I am not sure if he was genuinely mistaken or if he was just being sarcastic. I did find it offensive to be mistaken as something I am not but then I realized that not everyone is a car guy. I can always spot who is a car guy and who is not while driving my car. The people on the street that stare or do a double take at my car are the ones who appreciate what it is and that is all that matters!

Driving my Gen I with the top off one day, a guy on the street yells out "Hey! Nice Prowler!"

We laughed so hard... I had a Prowler during that time too. I used to drive it through town but never got "Hey Nice Viper" when driving it :lmao:I always got shoulda had a V8 on the Prowler:drive:

The blue Gen III often got called a vette...

You must mean from a distance of a mile or two  A car Guy/Gal would never make that mistake, I'm always willing to correct the uneducated enthusiast, without offense :2tu:

ive seen as many vipers as the next guy and from a distance, looking at it from the front or side the gen3/4 is hard to tell from a vette. until its pretty close, then you can tell. but it has to be pretty close

from the rear and if it has stripes its a no brainer
