Anyone in the New York (Long Island) area that they would trust to put the factory stripes on a Viper?? Color of the Viper is 2002 Graphite. Any idea's also of what this should cost? I have been getting quotes from $1500 to $2500.

Rip off 1500.00 2500.00 WAAAAAAY to much. Have you though about using vinyl stripes? Easiest and least expensive way and you always have the option to change your mind and remove vinyl.

I agree with the previous post regarding the vinly. However, if you do want them painted, $1500 is about the going rate. I was quoted around that by Defratus . However he's in Dallas. Sorry not much help.

Do a search for Chris Barone, owns body shop Viper specialist in NJ search in rt/10GTS but not under that name as signature, you will get many positive comments, along with Woodhouse recognized as the best place in the east. Or go to page 3 of the posts here I posted his contact info phone etc for Toby T under a thread he started titled "thinking of putting stripes......"

Much more info to be viewed under "search"...would point out that a FIRST CLASS stripe job (including multiple layers of clear-coat, wet sanding, etc.) by a well known and respected "Viper Shop" will cost $2500-3000.00+ range....AND, it will NOT have the ridge that one gets with a factory stripe. That said, one can pay less and HOPE to get lucky.

Steve is right.... to properly paint stripes on a Viper, nearly every body panel in painted and clear coated. The car is "taped" while it is together, and than some shops even take the nose, hood, trunk and rear fascia off to paint and clear coat them.... before reassembling.

I don't know.

If I had a perfect factory finish, I would be hesitant to let anyone put aftermarket clear coat over entire body panels.

Aftermarket paint is different and inferior with regard to stone chip visibility - at least on a 2000.

OEM clear coat is flexible, but further, when chipped, the fracture surfaces do not turn white, but instead, maintain the body color. This makes them virtually invisible.

I have talked to 3 different paint suppliers and they didn't have much to say on this other than a "solids" comment where the soft/flexible clear coat is actually an inferior, cheap finish.

Since this doesn't make sense, so I have reserved judgement in this area, and would never compromise the OEM finish if at all possible.

Tom, you have expressed my INITIAL concerns very well !!! When Wife wanted a 2001 yellow GTS with blue stripes instead of the factory-done black stripe package, she purchased the car from Woodhouse, and they applied the blue (96-97 Viper blue) stripes to this "******" Viper before we ever saw it. Good old Bill Pemberton kept his usual close eye on the project and we were VERY HAPPY when the car arrived here...AND, are STILL happy with the quality of the work nearly 2 years later!
