Been wanting to post this pic up for ages, just don't get much internet time these days, just too good a photo found in archives not to share with the Viper nation, and neat story. The photographer is Peter Brock, designer of the awesome Cobra Daytona Coupe (Shelby USA) which took 1965 world GT championship. The Viper GTS has been often referred to as the Cobra Daytona of the 1990's, which has been attributed to Peters original design influence. This photo is from Le Mans 1996, the GTS-R debut year racing there. I'm restoring this car back to that initial piece of GTS-R history, and Peter found me this photo in his archives. I have many, many photos, but this I felt was just too good, and needed posting up here. Note the Reynard 1-piece fascia and hood back then!

Great looking car. Do you have any pictures of the car in its current state?

The exhaust is in the side sill. Above that is an air inlet. Probably for the brakes or rear diff cooler.

Did I read RESTORE? Gonna keep it in a Museum for public display I'm hoping.

Awesome. Found a Maestro die cast GTSR model in Bellingham last Wed.

I hate to see that kind of damage, but I LOVE to see these cars being beat on. That's what they were meant for. Repair it and rag on it. Don't put it in a museum.

Yessssssssssss...the GT1 GTS-R '96 will not be a meusem piece, it has sat in a garage way too long while I work and sort restoration / rebuilt from frame up (over the last 9 years)! A labour of love :headbang:

Even been talking with a UK team that have run a Viper at Le Mans, very keen about returning to the 24 hours with this car; entry fee alone is $20K ... :omg:

I'd get the engine build finished if I can sell a road car, cam bearings installed, got the crank balanced, oh my, you gota see a drill go into that crank like butter, I nearly had kittens watching (it was my first time!) :

pdmracing I would love any '96 Le Mans pics you can find, how fantastic you were there, these are getting rare so it seems; seen and forgotten...I think not here!! My email is [email protected] love to hear from you.
The race #52 pic is of C6, the only red frame factory car, it is a 'phoenix' Viper beat a big fire at Le Mans '97 and still runs strong, was at track with it CA 2 years ago.

Yes, race cars get beat up, but bounce back, fixing them good is what counts.
