im very close to purchasing a SRT from Fl state. the dealer said i had to pay 4.5% tax on the car. the car is being registered in NYS and our tax is 8.5%. dont you usually pay the tax when you register your car in your state and DO NOT pay the dealer??? im kinda confused. thanks in advance

Sales Tax should not be paid until you register in your state. Ask the Dealer if he has a New York State Tax ID #? If he doesn't they are trying to get an extra 4.5%.

Congrats on your impending purchase. I bought mine in NH and paid MA taxes. Probably not a good example because NH doesn't have taxes.

When I have been hit with out of state taxes
on motorcycles all I did was give the tax bill to county
office and they applyed it to my NY tax.

Here in FL you need to pay the tax if you intend on buying and driving the car out... I think if you have it shipped then you can pay in NY

thats exactly what they ahve told me at the dealer in naples.
