I love driving my car and I end up driving it pretty hard. Well, after a year of driving, the front bumper has its fair share of rock chips. While it was in to get the hood alignment issue fixed, I wanted them to remove the bumper and repaint it. I just got a call and the shop wants me to pay $1700 to R&I, strip, and repaint the front bumper. Now, I know this is way too high, but what is a realistic number?

I removed and installed my own so I can't help you with that price but my complete strip and repaint cost $300. They did an excellent job and the paint matched perfectly.

I've repainted my front bumper/fascia 2x's already.

First time was at a Mercedes body shop, they matched the color very well-but it chipped rather quickly -$400

Second paint was from a Dodge dealership, perfect color match, just enough 'flexol' in the paint-$700 (took one day to do it)

I also drive my Viper a lot, it's ALREADY slightly chipped, next time I will put a clear bra on it

hope that helps

I'm in NJ. Just got mine done a couple months ago. I took the facia off and brought to the paint shop. $500.00 to prep and paint (w/stripes). I then reassembled... :)

That does-and is what I was expecting. I was hoping to have it repainted at the same shop, but for a grand more than expected, I think I will be walkin.

I finally found a good clear-bra installer. Once I get the bumper repainted, the car will sit in the garage for a month before it is off to get clear-bra. I have it on the hood and is well worth every cent.

Thanks!

For all those who removed and installed themselves-do you have to worry about alignment when you put the bumper back on or is the alignment really in the hood and headights?

Remove it yourself and carry it into the shop. You will save some money there and you will not get the overspray on the car. I take mine off without removing the bumper. This way it lines back up perfectly. You will have to re0place the plastic x-mas tree retainers. So just shear them off when removing the shell and buy new ones. You should be able to get this done for less than $500 if they are stripping the old paint off.

Oh, Besure you tell them to add the flex additive when they paint it. They did not add it to mine and I have spider cracks all over mine. This happens when you hit the road and the bumper needs to flex slightly.

$900 to remove, strip, paint and reinstall. Perfect paint match and alignment with hood after reinstall. Had been previously repainted without stripping and without flexall. Lots of paint cracks.

$300 job the first time. Done right the second time.

had some repair work done at Berli's. He is a Viper owner too.... May be a bit costly, but wouldn't hurt to call them. Take a look at the website.

single color 3-400. you take it off. The blue and the saphire might be a little more because of the pearls in the paint, (harder to match)

Body work is truly an art form.. This is something that you certainly get what you pay for.. See Leslies post, looks like this is her 3rd-4th attempt at getting a $400 job.. Maybe if it was done right the first time for $1700, it would last longer?? These bumpers just should not chip that easy, if painted correctly.

In the big picture, $1700 isnt that much to ensure the job is done right. my $.02 thats all

wow.................

:nono:

Listen, I have owned a few cars over the years, ranging from Mercedes E55, Viper, and 11 corvettes.. I DO have some experience when it comes to high-end body work.. Obviously something like R&R a bumper, is not the most difficult job in the world. However, if done poorly. You are just going to end up re-do'ing it.. I would suggest he remove the facia himself as well, but seems he is against it..

I'm going to need mine repainted as well. I went to Burli as well, and they will only do a repaint with a full repair. I can understand their mentality, as they don't want to have blemishes/cracks show up because they didn't repair any marks. They're 100%, but you pay for it. They would not even work on my Northwind carbon fiber top, because they weren't confident they could get the carbon fiber to look new and last.

I need to have mine repainted as well after several DE events. I'm on the hunt, and will let you know what I find out. Please let me know if you find someone.

One hint that Chris Phar gave me on removing the facia is to not take off the pins. There are four bolts that hold the facia and assembly to the front of the car. When I saw where they were, I thought he was plastic man. I couldn't see how anyone could get them off. Aparantly, you can get a wratchet in there and move it in very small increments to get them off. On is a bigger issue, and you'll need a long slender magnet tip to be able to thread it. It takes 10 min to get the nuts on, but you'll save hours in getting the facia realigned.
