future parts for gen 1\'s

I guess the glass is always half empty to me. What to do when the gen 1 parts bin runs dry??

DC always chants how they take care of Viper owners. I guess that's only until the next gen comes out.

I think that well ran dry years ago. DC sold out its Gen1 inventories before I bought mine, and I thought the Gen2 stuff was whatever was left in dealership stock.

Don't worry too much - there are plenty of salvage vehicles to pull from and I'm sure the vendors will take the slack of any high-demand parts.

Re: future parts for gen 1\'s

It's looking bad. My buddy Jerry is working on a Gen II viper and was told by a dealer that he bought one of the last sets of Head gaskets for a GEN II that exists. Another member Kurt has had a very hard time getting a brake Caliber for his GEN II.

I personaly have never had too hard of time getting parts. So I can't complain too much. But we need to have the powers that be (namely us as a club) presure DC to keep making parts for our cars.

VCA has been discussing this parts issue with Dodge for the past few years. The molds and fixtures to make these parts are irreplaceable.

As a stop gap, valuable vendors such as Parts Rack have been buying up "doner" cars and parting them out as needed. This takes a significant investment, with no guarantee of profit for years.

Don't let wrecked Vipers be crushed. Get them into the hands of someone willing to buy them, and part them out.

bah you guys worry too much. Head gaskets are already made by a few aftermarket companies, screw the stock stuff. Calipers while may not say viper have come on numerous other vehicles, and worst case scenario just swap them for gen III or aftermarket.

The viper specific "parts" list is actually not that extensive outside of the bodywork.

Coil packs... those are minivan parts
Steering rack... dakota pickup
Hubs, not positive but those very well could be dakota parts as well.
Engine parts... pfft

Worry about piddily stuff less, drive the car more, in the end you'll have a lot less grey hair to show for it.

Please post the name of the company that makes replacement head gaskets for GEN1?

GEN 3 calibers do not fit GEN 1's...

I have 45.000 miles, no grey hair, so I drive the car. How many miles you have?

Email or PM me about rear brake calipers. While the casting was Viper-specific, the internal parts are only slightly more common (yeah, like a front wheel drive Dodge Monaco and a Lotus Elise.)

I do know I've been the only one using the caliper slide bolt "pin boots" for the last two years, having now to get them from Europe. I can rebuild the OEM size as well supply upsized 40mm calipers.

Re: future parts for gen 1\'s

Even if aftermarket suppliers are making parts doesn't mean we need DC to stop.

One reason is competition what do you think aftermarket part prices will do if DC stops making parts? My guess is go up in $s.

Another reason is aftermarket suppliers will only make common profitable parts. I sincerely doubt they will make every part for a viper it just wouldn't be profitable.

And even another reason is some of the guys I know don't want anything but OEM parts. They want to keep the car original.

I think it would be a big mistake to not take this problem seriously. We want and need all the parts options we can get. :2tu:
