I'm looking at a 1999 RT 10, red with stripes (added by a dealer). Car has a factory hard top and soft top. The mileage is 14,000 and a one owner car. The price is $48K. I'm looking for any advice and what to have checked out before I purchase. The car has minor scuffs on the wheels from curbing it, which will polish out. Other than that, the car is pristene.

Price sounds about right. Use the current tough market as leverage to talk him down to about $46,000. It would be a great deal at that price plus you will be getting the lumpy cam engine that so many of use Gen II Viper owners covet. Just be sure to put it through a full inspection by a Viper certified mechanic. Other than that, I am sure that you have found yourself a great car. Good luck.

There is a difference between the 1999 and 2000 in regard to the pistons(99 are forged and 00 are cast). If you plan to upgrade to a S/C or NOS, this may be a factor. If not the 2000 is a great deal.

Be sure frame recall has been performed properly

For what it's worth I sold my '99 about 15 mos ago for $51.5K with similar mileage and both tops - car was pristine

sure do miss the cam in the '99 - much better engine idle/sound than my '02
