Anyone have any thoughts/opinion on where the 1998 GTS-R/GT2 might bottom out in price? I'm thinking collectible condition, 5k-10k miles, all original etc.

How about 96/97 GTS's?

Thanks,
TDR

Special Viper the '98 GTS-R, I doubt that car will bottom as it's the ONLY one going up.

Last year one was offered in Atlanta for $99K and it did sell. Not sure what the final price was but it was not cheap.

Saw one "somewhere" on the net for 89k

Buy the book "Viper Buyers Guide" for production numbers etc and go from there

They already bottomed out and are now climbing in price, simply a supply and demand situation. Right now there are very few for sale by people that have to sell them and the ones that are for sale are at a premium price.

But are these really GTS-Rs ?? or are they the knock off paint job/ ACR rims, smooth tubes, that really DONT have the GTS-R engine, or drive line ?

I would rather have the real deal, not just those stickered up Gen IIs. There is an obvious difference between a REAL GTS-R and those limited production Factory bagdged "GTS-R"'s

Can anyone enlighten us on the major differences ?

Here's the deal:

The REAL GTS-R's are actually LeMans oriented race cars, many from ORECA that raced during our historic championships while Dodge was sponsoring factory cars, PLUS many were purchased by privateers, including some that are still racing in Europe, Japan, and of course, the US.

The comemorative edition GTS-R's, were a 100 unit run in '98 that was essentially a run of 100 cosmetically enhanced GTS's with a very unique white paint, with blue stripes, special badging, interior blue panels, wing, bbs wheels, smooth tubes, harnesses...and lots of other goodies like a custom car cover with your VIN #. Very similar to the performance upgrades of the ACR of '99+.

Barret Jackson was involved with one of the most entertaining portions of their program (and it was televised over and over for about a year) when the VCA was gifted Olivier Barretta's GT2 (#51 as this was his number), and the bidding went up to a spectacular $170k+!

Through the years, these 100 have been the strongest, and rarest units of the entire Gen2 run of Vipers!

Thanks Joseph,

I am just suprised that their values are that high, since they have nothing significant over any other GTS, especially if you get an ACR, which has all of that stuff except the interior color and car cover (oh, and spoiler). But motor, tranny, diff, all else the same.

And you say Rarest, but I am sure there are vipers such as the ACR's with particular color combos that are 20 to 30 units range, where as all 100 of these GTS-Rs are identical.

Just a curiousity thing for me, I am by no means hating on the GTS-R badging, and more find it to be unique market then anything. Good luck to those that have them, and those who want them. They are all vipers, so they are all good ;-)

The reason I say the rarest, is, although there are color combos that actually are rarer (97 Blue/white RT/10 comes to mind, and of course, our VCA edition models), the GT2 has a serialized and VIN matched model designator, some very unique leather trim, some absolutely unique features (wing, color harnesses), and a historic reason for their existence.

Appreciate the input. The few that are circulating for sale are running the in high 80's/low 90's for now. Except for the on that sold at Barrett Jackson, that went for $180k. $90k seems "reasonable", $180k seems a little off the deep end. Still looking. . .

treed...you mmight not have understood the above, the $180k Barrett Jackson sale of #51 was so high because it is a real race car, probably 300-400k to construct. It is NOT one of the 100 GTSR production cars. #51 also has a history as one of the most succesful racers.

I have seen a low of $78,000.00 on a 6,000 mile GT-2 so far. I have no idea if that's the bottom, or if you can find them even lower.

They've got the Barrett Jackson car for sale again here:

http://dodgevipersforsale.com/GTSR.htm

Not sure what they are asking for it now, I offered them $90k. I agree that if this was one of the authentic ORECA (SP?) cars, then it would be worth $180k or more, but as one of the 100 street versions, $180k seemed pretty high...

$78k for a 6k mile GT-2 sounds "reasonable"...

I had the opportunity to buy the GT2 in 98 but the dealers were asking for 20K over list which was 80-85K. I didn't think the premium was worth it because I wanted to drive them and not store them.
