I used standard connectors to avoid cutting, splicing, or 3M clipping ANY wires for my installation. I made up a wedge that took power from the console lighter input plug, provided the leads for the V1, and then provided new leads to the lighter.
I try not to ever scar the wiring. I have redone old Corvettes and I still curse people (Bubbas) who mangled the wiring 30 or 40 years ago.....
That said, I saw no reasonable way to avoid tapping into 3 wires for my cruise control installation (VSS,2 brake light leads).
