Irritating personality, tries to hate the car, but ends up liking it. Kind of a closet g*y attitude.

He should have tested the Viper against some of their highly reliable and high-revving British machinery.
Maybe he would have appreciated it more.

Clarkson said it best with:

"It would set me out as someone who won't conform to the English norm...."

there's an attractive force, setting yourself as being a bit unique and not willing to be "forced into conformity".

David E. Davis said something like that about the Countach in the 60-minutes interview he did for the Lamborghini Countach story aired in 1986. That summed it up for me too.

Thanks for posting the article!

Hell's Bells or the Hammers of Hell are a term used to refer to the sounds of the engine room of a cruise, commercial,or military ship.No communication is possible other than signals by hand or monitor.Screaming into anothers ear does not work.Ambient noise is far greater, and you can feel it.Temps on a cool day might be 120 deg F.An SRT-10 is like a dog fart.Silent but DEADLY!They shouldn't send a girlie man to do a real MAN's or a real WOMAN's job. Faint praise, for a car that outperforms the Muci in 6 out of 10 MT performance tests, has world class braking, 3.9 0-60 scorching acceleration, crisp turn-in, and beats the Ferrari Enzo in Motor Trend's figure 8 test, both in lower time, and higher average G's. (Oct issue, pgs 80 and 160)
While mag numbers are notoriously innacurate and misleading, you don't even approach Enzo numbers unless you are "right there" with the world's best. So even if the numbers are off, the SRT still proves itself worth more than Clarkson's faint praise, regardless.

Hp/L may be a yardstick of engine sophistication, but it is not a measure of pure performance. The SRT gets mpg on a par with the world class cars that it runs with, or beats. Pathetic? No! Simple? Yes, wonderfully simple. Thank God we "Yanks" can drive simple, pure power, and not have to pay exorbitant European prices for driving excitement. Maybe the "father", (Britain), just can't seem to honestly compliment the "son", (USA) That's ok, we've been doing fine on our own!

The worldwide press should give the SRT a resounding standing ovation! :usa:

(feeling very chauvinist now)

I was surprised to read the concluding part of the article, I thought he would never want a Viper  Raises my hopes for the TV review just a little.

Re: Hell\'s Bells, a ride with the devil

Sometimes I wonder if the Brits really do *** up American cars before they test them...Stateside reviews on the SRT never mentioned "centimeters of play at dead center" for the steering. How can reviews be so drastic...I understand the "crude" and "uncivilized" comments as the Viper was made to be a throw back car and not for everyone....But steering dynamics, handling results etc just cant be that different between stateside and across the pond...Its obvious to me they have strong bias and let it show in there journalism. The part about it being "wayward and hopeless" is pretty telling...Europeans should be ashamed then since this "wayward, hopeless" machine can beatdown most of there superior cars...

Its funny that when we test European cars its pretty much similar to there conclusions...And when we test Euro car vs the Viper it usually beats them or runs with em. That proves to me the bias.....So I generally take European journalism as regards American products with a grain of salt.

quite a few left handed compliments, but all in all he said if he could get one in rt hand drive he'd buy one(that says it all). The doesnt seem to be any emperical data or stats from the "testing", is that the whoe article? thanks for posting it was a good read.

Thanks for the post. This article makes you wonder about the Brits and just how much they've changed in the last couple hundred years. Common sense isn't so common, and seems to be almost absent in Europe these days. Guns are all but outlawed there as crime skyrockets. They consider us and our cars loud, proud and bad to the bone. And they're probably right. The USA is the envy of the world now more than ever. Perhaps the Viper is too, considering what you get for the money.
