Help! Anyone know how to remove the \"hood speakers\"?

I see the two screws underneath, but even after removing them, they still won't come out.

If there is any other screws, or glue, then I don't want to mess 'em up by prying on them.

I do have a Milwaukee sazall, if that helps.

just pull reeal hard,JUST KIDDING, there is 4 screws you probably missed the two hiding towards the front about 8-10 inches from the ones you got ,i would advise using magnetic phillips head other wise you will hear your screws roll down the inside of your hood ,not that thats ever happaned to me

The only way to get it out is to remove and re-paint. That is what I have been told anyway. Good luck

Watch the vent doesn't slide out of the spot and down the hood and scratch the hood on the way down.
A la Vipermed, not that thats ever happened to me

Hard angle to have your hands on both, from over and under the hood, extra pair or hands might help.

You know, I was actually contemplating "pulling real hard"!

So I guess you gotta go under the hood insulation to get to the other two screws. Thanks for the info!

Zackly! I get a little careless sometimes with the wax sponge......

Why can't you just use a toothpick, and gently rub the wax out of the perforations? Seems to work well in other areas of the car.

I have found that if you use a short stiff (ya I know) detail brush it will take all the wax out of the speakers. Not that wax ever gets into all those little holes!

A very soft tooth brush works well also.

Be careful on the left one...MORE than one owner has dropped a screw down into the hood...a real bear to get it out as well.

If you've got wax in the little holes there is an EASY way to desolve it. Get a toothbrush and some automatic transmission fluid, rub gently and it desolves the wax immediately, then just wipe with a rag.

Like it has been said before, 4 screws per grill. You should not have to go under the insulation at all. There are holes for each screw in the pad. There are screw drives that are magnetic AND have these little clamps on the end of the blade that clamp onto the screw. A little investment in this tool will save you a lot of heartache. But if you do drop a screw into the hood, you can retrieve it by using a very very very strong magnet. The ones that come out of electric motors work really well. I forget the exact name, I think they are called Samarium Cobalt magnets. Take one of these, place the hood in the up position so the screw works its way to the bottom. There are holes down there under the hood. Use the magnet UNDER the hood to work the screw towards one of these holes. Not that this has happened to me before or anything

Ulysses,

So far no one gets wax in their grills, no one drops screws, and everyone is just peachy-perfect!

What a perfect world!

Thanks for the magnet idea. I guess I won't be needing my sawzall after all. (Not that I dropped a screw or anything!)

Re: Help! Anyone know how to remove the

Another option for future waxing is to just take 2 minutes and put painters tape over the "speakers" so you don't have to worry about getting wax on them. The stuff leaves no residue and comes right off. No rare-earth magnets, screwdrivers, or other chemicals needed. ;)

Re: Help! Anyone know how to remove the

I have a screw rolling around in my hood somewhere. Polishing compound accidentally dripped through the holes in the hood speaker, so the only way to get it out was to remove the grill. Tough to reach! But looks great now.
