HELP needed - getting a \'Statement of Compliance\' for New Zealand

Our club members Sarah and Tom are moving to New Zealand in September and want to take their European spec 97 GTS with them, they urgently need a written document of STATEMENT OF COMPLIANCE for FRONTAL IMPACT AND EMMISIONS to enable them import the car to New Zealand. They have rang Chrylser UK and USA and have received no help at all, infact they said they were very unhelpful. They need to prove the viper meets NZ regulations.

any ideas ? anything you can suggest or help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

Re: HELP needed - getting a \'Statement of Compliance\' for New Zealand

Hi Neil, It should not be a problem, from what I know as long as it complies with the US standards (and it does) it will comply with NZ standards. The sticker on the door states that it complies with the US standards and is the proof that is needed.

You can go to our transport authority site:
http://www.ltsa.govt.nz and go to the importing vehicles tab which will take you through the process.

Feel free to email or call me if you or they need further help.

There is a flow chart on the LTSA site info sheet 1.67 Importing light vehicles form the US. It shows that if it has a FMVSS plate (and it will) then it will be accepted.

Sarah said to let you know they are moving to Dunedin ! what are the chances of that !!! they are both very keen viper nuts, their viper is a 500 h.ennessey version with a very tweaked BTR NOS kit installed, although that will have to come off for the import along with the graphics. They are into drag racing, Lemans etc infact anything to do with racing in general

Spoke to Tom last night, the plate problem has occured because the car is a Chrylser and not a Dodge, if it was a dodge it would sail through with no hassles. It seems the required info isnt marked on Chrsyler cars

Why do the graphics have to come off to import the car?

not standard? it gets better.. Tom says the container will be emptyied at the docks, then a team will remove parts of the car that car be removed with a screwdriver and spanner and everything will be sprayed with a bug killer !!
then put back together

not only the car but everything in the container gets the treatment, it could take a couple of weeks to clear

I know some of the guys that do the certification so can go an see them Monday if you like, I think that if the car spec is the same as the Dodge it should be fine.

Can they not get information to say it is the same through Chrysler UK?

I presume it is LHD?

Chrysler NZ are no help but the local Chrysler deal is helpful.

I have a brother in law in shipping and managed to pick mine up up the same day the container was shipped. The secret is to make sure the car is spotlessly clean before shipping.

Fantastic there will now be two Vipers in Dunedin, their car makes my stock car look quiet plain!!!

cool, the car is remaining LHD no conversion to right is required. Chrylser UK is no help at all I'm afraid.

Can you send over your PM your email ? and I'll pass it on to them.

Re: HELP needed - getting a \'Statement of Compliance\' for New Zealand

I don't know about NZ, but over here in Aus, our cars only have to be externally steam cleaned on entry, if judged to be dirty by Quarantine. This only takes about an hour. The fumigation is only necessary if the car is packed with any wood. Again, this is just for Australia, but I'd check with NZ's quarantine service.

I chat with a guy who manages one of the most renowned car import places in NZ.. he could possibly be a big help ironing this out for them. If it was me, I would engage this guy to receive the container, do all the unpacking, quarantine and customs clearing - importing for the first time, into an unknown country, I'd really say his services would be very cheap insurance. Would you like me to contact him?
