Mine was 8 miles when I picked it up. If I understand correctly they do a small amount of actual chassis testing and maybe some final testing at the factory (someone here will know for sure). However, I do not know if that accounts for the 8 miles or if the dealer put them on.

The VIN # is stamped on the car, engine, and transmission. The computer also keeps the VIN and the mileage.

The new model years for 2002 are being built now, so I would suspect that if yours was built in Nov. it would be a '95

Yeah according to the papers mine had 15miles on it
but then i got this like certificated from the dodge with my VIN on it, the testers say that miles recorded on the odometer at the conclusion of testing was 050 but actully looks like sombody changed it from 250 to 050 but im guess both figures are too high! very wired..

15 miles is right for a new car.

Where on the Engine is the VIN can i see it simply by opening the hood??

You will need to jack the car up to get under it to see the number. It is stamped on the engine block. Your shop manual will show you the exact location. If you do not have a shop manual, look on ebay and you can get one for $20-$30.

Obviosly cant see the one on the transmission can I?

You can see the one on the transmission at the same time you are under the car looking at the engine VIN.

Ohh i didnt know the computer stored this infomation
didnt even know there was a computer in the 1995
will my Chrysler dealer be able to access the infomation on it??

Yes, the Dodge/Chrysler dealer can access this information with the use of a DBR III (I think that's the name of the computer)

My 1996 model year GTS was built November 12, 1996 though I'm sure the model switch over dates varied by year.

Does anyone know the model year switchover dates by year?

It would be packed away in storage, however I think I did. Did it come in an envolope with the mileage hand written in. Should be about 3.5" x 8.5"

The cards from Team Viper with the VIN, test mileage and craftperson's autograph do not come in envelopes, were in the glove compartment of earlier RTs and in the pocket between the seats of GTSs. My 4 Vipers have had cards with mileage recorded as 7,9,7, and 7 ('96, '97, '98, and '01 Vipers)

You may want to do a search for VIN of the forums, another fellow last week wanted to find the VIN on his engine, and it's location was described in that thread as well.

The Engine serial number is located horizontally on a pad toward the front passenger side of the block, just above the oil pan and the VIN's located vertically on the rear passenger side... on the area that the tranny bell housing is bolted too.

Also, the VIN is stamped on the tranny tailshaft housing, drivers side, in a vertical orientation below the shifter.

I think the number you are looking at is the Serial Number (?). The VIN is stamped at teh rear. The sticker on your door lists the MDH, the date the car was built, it is only there, and on the window sticker.

As long as I'm at it, the VIN is also on the frame:

and the windshield pillar:

Yes, model year changeover date varies year to year, '96 was pretty wierd (for both RT/10s and GTS's) to allow a run of '96 RT/10's in the new factory (CAAP) after the move and to allow for the GTS run in '96. When I get a chance I'll try to add those dates to the VIN Area

We are getting close to the introduction of a searchable VIN database, I have my car in there for testing purposes, go to VIN Database and click on "List All" all to see the direction we are heading. If you click "View" you'll see the info we plan on entering.... still have a few holes to plug in. We have volunteers for '92-'93, GTS-R (not GT2) and '03 Competition Coupe Registrars. Ignore the text, only the registrars will be able to "officially" enter information after documentation verification occurs. The info email address is still the default, please don't email alex@gossmerthreads

I would need to know more about the details of the time expected to make a commitment to a year, but I'm sure I could help in some way.

Pencil me in for '98 (if you are doing more than one year per person, then maybe '98 & '02) I just need to know more about what needs to be done.
