You may want to do a search for VIN of the forums, another fellow last week wanted to find the VIN on his engine, and it's location was described in that thread as well.
The Engine serial number is located horizontally on a pad toward the front passenger side of the block, just above the oil pan and the VIN's located vertically on the rear passenger side... on the area that the tranny bell housing is bolted too.
Also, the VIN is stamped on the tranny tailshaft housing, drivers side, in a vertical orientation below the shifter.
I think the number you are looking at is the Serial Number (?). The VIN is stamped at teh rear. The sticker on your door lists the MDH, the date the car was built, it is only there, and on the window sticker.
As long as I'm at it, the VIN is also on the frame:
and the windshield pillar:
Yes, model year changeover date varies year to year, '96 was pretty wierd (for both RT/10s and GTS's) to allow a run of '96 RT/10's in the new factory (CAAP) after the move and to allow for the GTS run in '96. When I get a chance I'll try to add those dates to the
VIN Area
We are getting close to the introduction of a searchable VIN database, I have my car in there for testing purposes, go to
VIN Database and click on "List All" all to see the direction we are heading. If you click "View" you'll see the info we plan on entering.... still have a few holes to plug in. We have volunteers for '92-'93, GTS-R (not GT2) and '03 Competition Coupe Registrars. Ignore the text, only the registrars will be able to "officially" enter information after documentation verification occurs. The info email address is still the default, please don't email alex@gossmerthreads
Cody, want to do a year?
